Anyone into crime novels?

I've a friend who's really into crime novels and I';d like to get her one for Christmas, I think books are great presents, but I don't read a lot of crime myself so I'm not sure what would be a good one, anyone else know any? My friend reads a lot of them and she says the test of a good one is if she isn't able to figure out the the killer/stalker/whatever is before the end, but as she reads a lot she doesn't get caught o the red herrings very much anymore.
