Would you do what Michael did? |
|
Michael showed in the later episodes of Season 2 what a father might go through to rescue his son. The love a parent has for a child is particularly intense, probably the strongest feeling that a human being is capable of.
We saw Michael kill two people and free someone he knew might be dangerous, plus lead four of his friends into certain danger. He did this because he was told if he did then he would get Walt back and they could go home.
I know it might be hard for anyone who isn't a parent to be sure how they would react in order to protect their child but I ask you now:
Would you do what Michael did or would you have tried to find another way, risk trusting Jack or Sayid or Jin+Sun and tell them what was really going on?
I'd have tried to find another way. As they said, live together die alone, and I think if they had all worked together then they might have had more success, and they still could have gotten Walt back. that said, of course Michael had only known these people for a couple of months, plus had learned that Ethan and Goodwyn had infiltrated the group, so may not have known he could trust anyone at that stage. All the same, he was therefore too trusting of the Others, as he had no way to be sure they would keep their word and we still don't know if they did or not, as we haven't seen if he and Walt reached safety.

I think what he did was pretty evil and although I can't comment on the strength of a parents love for their child (my biggest responsibility is my goldfish) , the lesson he taught Walt by doing what he did is that it's ok to screw other people over as long as it works to your advantage...nice.

good point, ben made the point that he would never tell anyone where they were as he would have to explain what he did to get himself and Walt out of there, but Walt is bound to be curious on that long boat journey, whereever they're going, and when he learns it's not a good example.

Yeh, I agree with Redwinegoblin, I cant really comment as I dont have kids, and im not gunna have any for a while lol but killing them was just pointless, he could of just told her that he needed to set Henry free to get Walt back, they didnt exactly tell him to kill them. So I think it was just pure evil.
