In that instance I think he wasn't as bad and he was sacrificing himself for her, fair enough, that wasn't ordering or patronising as such, but a lot of the time in their dealings with each other he doesn't give her a fair chance. What about when Ben/fake henry was in the hatch and he didn't tell her about it? If he really trusted her he should have told her about that, but he kept the secret, kept her out of the loop. Also, if he'd actually gotten to know her better and listened to her he would know that she is more than capable of going on treks and missions, but apart from at the start when he wanted to know what she did, after first saying that she didn't have to tell him, then holding her case from her, he hasn't really bothered to learn about her as a person, he wants to look after her but has no idea who she really is. Sawyer at least has put some effort in, and I think that although he doesn't always treat her right either, she can handle him, as RWG says she turns into a different person around Jack, I think it's too much like the person she was when she married the cop, it would never last as it wouldn't be her whole self she was bringing into the relationship.

Its clearly something we both strongly about Rave2Jate, so I'm not going to keep arguing the point as I don't think we'll get anywhere! I don't like Jate ,that's not going to change. The dynamic between Jack and Kate is just strange and unhealthy in my opinion and I don't think anything will change that, I think its just the way it's written.
Although I'm not compeltely convinced by Skate either, I prefer Sawyer as a character and the way he interacts with Kate is completely different to how she acts with Jack. I'll be interested to see how it all plays out - and I don't think Skate or Jate is dead and buried , it's too much of a ratings grab for that.

Jack knew she was a criminal and kept it a secret, respected her.
But as soon as Sawyer found out he used it to his advantage and revelaed to nearly every person she had come to know on that island, and he didnt even say sorry.

Jack has told her he doesnt want to know, for now thats what is happening, but Sawyer doesnt know either.
There will come a point when she tells Jack, she will have to to get her redemption.

OK, dragging me back into the debate!! .... So, when does Jack get redeemed? By fixing Kate? Because it seems that trying to fix everything caused all his problems in the first place....

If Kate tells him what she did, it doesnt mean he 'fixes' her.
He is listening, and I think slowly he is beginning to trust Kate again. And considering all the bad women problems he's had in the past, by being with Kate, he will be able to feel true love, not lust with a prostitute or get married to someone who you feel you owe it too.

He has been slowly falling in love with Kate, and when he realises it he will have his redemption.

I second what RWG said Rave2Jate, good to have you in on the debate, makes the site all the better for the different views!

I don't think it'll be resolved completely until the very end, and I don't think all three of them will survive, but it's great to have a storylien that people feel so strongly about!

I'm not convinced at all. About the redemption ideas or about the ultimate perfection of Jate - I think it'd be a lazy ending if the producers made it all about becoming a better person and had Jack and Kate walking off hand in hand at the end - or indeed Sawyer and Kate.
I think Lost is more edgy than that and it'd be a shame if they ruined all the mysteries and twists by making an "apple pie" ending that didn't fit the evolution of the story. I think the day that Lost becomes all about love and togetherness and redemption then it'll lose it's point.

Don't forget that Kate is still a wanted citizen in the real world, so if there is a rescue there will be that to contend with, I don't think there will be a happy ending either way, but after watching the show about Lost (the lost survivor guide I think) I got the distinct impression that David Lindeloff is a Jater, he said that he's the one she should be with, which worries me a bit, and had me shouting at the TV at the time.

I know there's a theme of redemption running through the show but it's not that simple either, plenty of characters have died without being redeemed, I think it's one of the themes but not the most important one.

hello all.im new here as u may hav gessed an not really sure how to do this but im gona giv it a go anyway. im not really a hardcore shipper or anything but i do prefer sawyer and kate together than kate and jack. althou ther relationship is a bit volatile an kinda love/ hate a lot of the time (which is the best kind way to be), i just find them to have so much more depth and chemistry than vice versa (kate and jack). i think the recent blip in their relationship after saweyer not apologising is just typical of their characters personalities, sawyers insercurities about kate reciprocating his feelings and kates reluctance to acknowledge her feelings for him. but hopefully when kate returns they'll be able to get back on track and jack can just leave em be.
