Merlin |
|
New show on the BBC, Merlin, replaces Robin Hood (boo hiss). Anyway, thought I'd watch it cos it looked ok and it's kinda my thing anyway. Plus I am from Camalot! I've just watched the first ep so thought I'd post here before I forgot what it was like!
It wasn't as good as Robin Hood, there was no humour in it and not a lot of action, although the next ep features a tournament so should be better. The dragon looked really fake and I'm not entirely sure why there was a dragon in it anyway. Couldn't really get over Victor Meldrew and Giles from Buffy being in it either... plus Guinevere was really ugly looking and I thought she was meant to be really beautiful?! Might have made that up. Anyway, I missed it on TV but the BBC are putting the eps up online for people to watch for so many days after the episode has aired so I'll probably end up watching it that way.
Here's the first episode if anybody's interested in checking it out: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dq8tn It's only online for another 19 days. Tis watchable.

I meant to watch that but I forgot all about it on Saturday! I might have a look for it (iplayer doesn't work for me as I'm outside the UK, boohiss)
Isn't it a young Merlin that's in it, before Arthur comes on the scene? I thought I read that...I do love the Arthurian legends

Yeah it's young Merlin, but Arthur is in it too... kinda hot, though deeply irritating.

Ah, ok - I thought Merlin was pretty old by the time Arthur came on the scene! Don't think I could find someone hot if they were deeply irritating...

Hence the 'kinda.'
Yeah I thought Merlin was old by the time Arthur arrived but in this they're the same age. Tis an alright show though.

I suppose it's all legends so they can do what they want with it really! Might watch it next week if I remember.

I do love the stories, one of my favourite books is "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley, it tells it from a positive pagan POV rather than the Christian one!

Sounds good!
The first ep is kinda just setting everything up I think, so it basically just lets you know that magic isn't allowed and that Merlin has magic so he'd better be careful... that's pretty much it.

Yeah it's great, Morgan le Fay is the main character in it, there's a lot of stuff about the priestesses of Avalon and what they do behind the scenes, Arthur comes across as a bit weak and easily influenced!
I won't have missed too much then, first episodes are often like that I suppose. I like the idea of Victor Meldrew in it!

Just looking that book up on Play!
He's quite good in it, sort of Merlin's mentor, I just think of him as Victor Meldrew though!

Yeah me too, that show was running when I was a kid, was one of the ones we all used to sit and watch as a family kind of thing! It is hard to imagine him as anyone else, be good to see if he can do it though! (I love that episode of Father Ted that he's in!)

Yeah I love that episode!!
Just discovered that there was a documentary about Merlin on after the show, which actually sounds more interesting than the show so I might watch that later too. Tis also on iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dpspb/ No good for you though, AR.

I'm used to it though. I'd rather pay your TV licence than the one here I think, the home made tv shows here are generally awful!

Ah right, it probably won't be as popular (though I'd be interested! )
Cool, thanks for the link!

Cheers! No worries if you can't find it, it'll probably be repeated some time anyway....
