The last film you watched....

I thought we already had a thread for this, but apparently we don't! So, what was the last film you watched? Was it excellent or did it suck?

Last night I watched Shrooms - about a group of US college kids who go all the way to Ireland to trip out on magic mushrooms (I'm sure they have them in America..) but inevitably a couple of bad trips later and there's all kinds of B-movie chaos happening.

Not a bad film, apart from some terrible Irish accents and an eyebrow raising portrayal of the "locals". I didn't think it was scary and the twist at the end was so obvious they might as well have just printed it on a tshirt, but if you don't want to engage your brain it's not a bad film to watch!
Em_J

Doesn't sound like my sort of film. I actually can't remember the last one I watched. Not a whole film. I watched the end of the Mummy Returns last night on TV.
redwinegoblin

Might just be me posting in here then! Laughing I seem to get through a lot of trashy horror films . I watched a bit of Mummy Returns too, but got bored when they introduced some big scorpion-bloke into the mix...
Em_J

Yeah I was only watching it cos I was waiting for the X Factor to come on! I only really tend to watch films all the way through when I go to the cinema, at home I tend to get bored and only watch bits and pieces. I did watch most of Flightplan the other day, then went to bed before the end! It was quite good though.
April_Rose

I haven't seen Shrooms but there's been a lot of publicity about it here over the bad accents and stuff! Laughing

Last film i watched...think it was that awful Welcome to the Jungle 2008 one I posted a rant about in here, the cannibalism with stupid Australians, that was terrible! Laughing
redwinegoblin

Just watched [.Rec] , a spanish film about a load of scary zombies in an apartment building.

Spanish horror films tend to be really good, this was a good'un too. Quite jumpy and lots of grainy hand-held camera shots. I'd recommend it if you like scary films!
Em_J

I don't like scary films but I like zombie films weirdly!
Jenny*

I'm no good with scary films, especially not jumpy ones!
redwinegoblin

They're sort of 28 days later zombies, it's all an infection but they still end up zombies in the end!

Talking of endings - veeery weird....
angelfairy

The last film i watched was The Dark Knight - amazing movie
Em_J

I watched How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. But it was a bit crap, and I didn't actually watch it all cos again, I got bored. It was on TV the other night.
April_Rose

That's one of those films I never bothered with, it just sounded too silly! Laughing

Last film I saw was some thriller, Murder at 1600, it was on TV late Saturday night. Wasn't great, about an intern in the White House getting murdered, but it was decent enough that I wanted to see how it would end.
Em_J

I was only really watching it cos the TV was on, not my sort of film really!
redwinegoblin

I watched "The Abandoned" the other night. It sucked big time - deserted house, dead people, but sooo not scary or cleverly done.
April_Rose

Watched the latest Tarantino film last night - "Deathproof".

I really enjoyed it! Laughing it was a bit slow to start with but the car chase theat went on for most of the last half hour was just brilliant, it was like an homage to Vanishing Point...with a smooth-talking serial killer and a gang of girls kicking ass!
Jenny*

Watched the 3rd Pirates last night. It's good, but still confuses me Laughing
Em_J

I saw bits and pieces of Brokeback Mountain. Seemed kinda dull and wasn't paying too much attention.
angelfairy

Equilibrium (or however you spell it) was on tv last night. i quite enjoyed it.
Em_J

Cool! I saw Equilibrium at the cinema when it came out, tis pretty good! Gross when that bloke's face gets sliced off though. Is that Equilibrium?!
redwinegoblin

I saw "The Eye" last night. It was a Hollywood adaptation of a Japanese film and it was a bit disappointing. There weren't enough scares really, and the main character was so lame it was hard to care that she was seeing dead people... and the ending was cheeeeeeese! Typical Hollywood, they can't help but stick in a heart-warming finish, even if the film's been full of floating dead people...

Might go watch the original japanese version, that'll probably scare the pants off me.
April_Rose

I watched the Sex & the City movie last night....it was ok, funny in places, I never liked Carrie though and it was more about her than the TV show, that was about all of them. I preferred the Miranda and Samantha storylines, they were more interesting than Carrie and Charlotte's....overall it was a bit too sugary sweet, hollywood happy ending for me. There was some good dialogue at least though.
Em_J

Finally I can put a film here that I've actually watched the whole of!! Just seen Jumper... My thoughts are in the Jumper thread. Wink
April_Rose

I saw The Dark Night and Kung Fu panda last night...will talk about them in their threads!
Em_J

I don't think I could sit through two films! One's hard enough! Laughing
April_Rose

Laughing Sometimes on a weekend night we'll watch 3!
Em_J

What?! Shocked
April_Rose

Yeah, unless a film is really deep or something I can forget it pretty quickly and move on to another....
Em_J

Yeah but they go on for ages! I get fidgety through one! Laughing
April_Rose

I do too, but that's why I prefer to watch at home than the cinema, I can pause it whenever I want! (My inner control freak manifesting itself I think! Laughing )
Em_J

Nah, I'd rather go to the cinema, I'm more likely to watch a whole film at the cinema than I am at home... probably because I've paid to watch it so I watch it!

Just watched Son of Rambow. I saw it when it came out at the cinema but I bought it for bro for his birthday so we've just watched it again. Tis funny as hell!
Em_J

Just went to the cinema and seen How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. Was ok, some funny moments. The people sat next to us were laughing way too much! It was funny, but it wasn't that funny!

And just came home and my bro is actually watching A Muppets Christmas Carol!
redwinegoblin

Ooh I love a Muppets Christmas Carol! Laughing

I saw One Missed Call last night, it was kinda creepy but not really very scary. A ghost being transferred through a mobile phone is the main concept, then the person who gets a phone call dies within a certain number of days... blah blah etc. A few scary moments but nothing terrifying.

There aren't enough decent scary films out there!
Em_J

I like Muppets Christmas Carol too, but not in October! Laughing
redwinegoblin

Yeah, I've got it on DVD but I only let myself watch it about 2wks before Christmas or I get all overexcited about it being Christmas when it isn't Laughing Same with the Snowman.
Em_J

Yeah my bro's got it on DVD. He's been making Christmas cake today, I think that's why he watched it, he's feeling festive! Laughing
redwinegoblin

Ah, fair enough. It's not long till Christmas now though, yay!   santa
Em_J

Nope! I was getting excited about it though the other day actually!!
redwinegoblin

Me too! I was in the furniture shop yesterday and they were putting up the massive Christmas display, I got very excited!
Em_J

Laughing Tis exciting! I was in the garden centre and they were putting out all the baubles and wrapping paper and whatnot!
April_Rose

I love the Christmas movies but it is a bit early! Laughing

Saw Hellboy 2: The Golden Army over the weekend. I liked the first Hellboy a lot, thought it was funny, this one wasn't so good though, Hellboy wasn't really in it as much, it was ok, but not that funny or exciting.
Em_J

Again, another film I've not bothered watching all of... Saw. Had Miles and Ben from Lost in it though!! Not my sort of film. Yawn fest.
redwinegoblin

Oh yeah, Ben is really creepy in that Laughing Although I didn't like the film much, just mess rather than any complex plot. Didn't see Miles when I watched it though (I'm starting to type Myles automatically now! Obsessed...)
Em_J

Yeah I go to write Myles! Laughing He was in it before Ben was.
Jenny*

Just been watching The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty & Enchanted.. (disney fest..)
April_Rose

Hehe! I've not seen enchanted...I've never seen the Lion King either though, or Bambi, I missed out on a lot of Disney during my childhood! Got to have kids myself to justify watching them all now at my age! Laughing

I saw The Happening recently, it's a kind of spooky, speculative fiction thing, people just start randomly killing themselves in huge numbers, not too bad - well, the acting was bad and the directing, but bad enough to be funny, and the actual premise of it is good. Also saw Righteous Kill, Al Pacino and Robert deNiro & John Leguizamo (I know that's spelled wrong!), not bad, twist at the end which I saw coming but was decent all the same. What else...oh yeah, watched Hancock, with Will Smith, that's pretty funny.
Em_J

Love John Leguizamo...
April_Rose

He's in The Happening as well Wink
redwinegoblin

I watched The Mist yesterday. It's (as you'd probably guess Laughing ) about a mist that has things in it that kill people. It sweeps over this cosy New England town and traps people inside a supermarket, where they all go a bit mental, get attacked by monsters and eventually try and escape in their car to try and find somewhere that hasn't been affected by the mist.

I won't spoil the ending in case anyone wants to watch it, but it was really bleak! Made me drop my jaw a bit at how non-traditional it was. Worth a watch if you can suspend reality for a while, not recommended if monsters and stuff leave you cold.
April_Rose

I'm not usually into horrors but twist endings do get me....might give it a go!

I watched Wanted and 10000Bc over the weekend, Wanted isn't bad, it's got James MCEvoy and Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman in it, it's a fast paced action film with a bit of a plot and a few twists, nothing too taxing on the brain but thought it was a good laugh, there are some great scenes it it like when Jolie's character Fox handbrakes a car going at speed and hits Wesley at such a perfect angle that he slides into the passenger seat and this scene where a train derails on a massive bridge...funny and silly with some good special effects.

10000 BC is this tribal warfare in the days of sabre-toothed tigers thing, it wasn't bad, again it certainly wasn't too taxing on the brain and there were dinosaur type creatures at one stage so I was yelling at the screen about the millions of years of innacuracy in that. The love story side of it was a bit dull but I tend to feel like that about most films, the best bits were the action scenes.
Em_J

I watched Enchanted on Saturday (possibly sunday) with mum. Love that film!
April_Rose

^^I still haven't seen that.

Watched a silly stoner film yesterday, Smiley Face with Anna Faris. Kind of like "Dude, where's my car".
Em_J

You should watch it, tis funny! I love Dude, where's my car?
April_Rose

Yeah I quite like it as well, this wasn't quite as good but it was a laugh.
Em_J

I was in Canada when I first watched it, so it always makes me think of Canada!
April_Rose

Weird! I know what you mean though, there's various songs and things I associate with places or people.
Em_J

Yeah, I think that's the only film that makes me think of something else though.
April_Rose

I've a few that remind me of growing up at various stages so i'd associate them with particular houses we lived in....
Em_J

Don't think I have not really, not in the way that Dude where's my car reminds me of Canada. There's films that I can remember where I was when I first saw them, but I wouldn't think of it as soon as I watched it. If that makes sense!
April_Rose

Yeah, I know what you mean, I think the reason a few do that for me is we never had a video till my parents split up so once we got it there was the novelty factor of watching films over and over, and then my younger bro & sis had their films that they loved and watched over and over as well...say "The Neverending Story", that video was worn out with how many times the three of us watched it and when it's on TV I always think of the house we lived in that year. Laughing We knew it so well we could repeat the dialogue word for word!
Em_J

I've never seen that film! I used to watch The Return of Jafar over and over! Laughing It's the second Aladdin film, think I only watched the first one once!
April_Rose

Think the first Aladdin one was the first film i saw in the cinema! Laughing Don't think i ever saw the second one...
Em_J

It was because I loved Iago the parrot, and the second film was kinda all about him, so I loved it! Still have it on video!
April_Rose

Cool! I don't even remember the parrot, it's that long since I saw Aladdin!
Em_J

Well you have to watch it again now! Laughing
April_Rose

Laughing You never know, I might!
April_Rose

Forgot to post (and sorry, it's a double)  - I watched Tropic Thunder last weekend, thought it was hilarious! But then I love Ben Stiller films anyway....it's the only film I've seen Tom Cruise in where the sight of him didn't make me want to puke.
redwinegoblin

Blimey, must have been good if Tom Cruise didn't make you want to hurl Laughing he gives me the creeps..brr...
April_Rose

Yeah, I really really really hate him! Makes me want to scream, but in this he's wearing a fat suit and a bald head and stuff...he doesn't look like Tom Cruise!
Em_J

Just watched Bigga than Ben. Which is a film about two Russian blokes to go to London and do all this dodgy stuff to get money. Tis pretty funny... and also happens to star Ben Barnes as a dodgy Russian. He can definitely pull off the rugged look!
redwinegoblin

I went to the cinema last night to see My Bloody Valentine 3D. The storyline itself was pretty formulaic slasher flick and it was seriously grisly, I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have a strong stomach.

The 3D was really cool though! We had to wear these goofy glasses but it was totally worth it, everything came bursting out of the screen, which in some cases was pretty gross - a severed jaw was thrown outwards and it felt like it was going to hit me right in the face Laughing . I've not seen a 3D film for ages and was expecting it to be really dodgy - like Jaws3 or something, but it was actually really amazing.

I'd recommend seeing it at the cinema rather than on DVD because it won't be half as good on a small screen.
Em_J

Those sort of films always irritate me. I'm always yelling at the people not to do what they do as it's obvious they're gonna get killed!

Last film I saw was I am Legend. Which was really good... and freaked me out in a couple of places. Made my mum jump out of her skin as well, which was funny. My bro said it has an alternate ending, but I don't know what that is.
angelfairy

I went to the cinema last night and saw Underworld Rise Of The Lycans.
I would recommend it to anyone, it was an awesome film
April_Rose

Watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night (got to love Ninjavideo, it's not even in the cinema yet here! Laughing ) - about a guy who's born an old man, and gets younger as he gets older. I liked it, moves a bit slowly in places (nearly 3 hours long), but I thought it was good.
April_Rose

Saw "Taken" last night (good old romantic, me! Laughing ) - about a teenage girl (played by Maggie Grace - Shannon from Lost) who gets kidnapped by a sex-trafficking gang and her CIA agent father (Liam Neeson) who has to find her before it's too late.

Was a good laugh! Think it's meant to be a thriller but there were a lot of clichés, some good action scenes...thought it was good, if unintentionally funny.
Em_J

Saw Watchmen last night at the cinema... majorly violent! Very gross, lots of blood and gore, I couldn't look at the screen half the time cos people were shooting other bits of people... puke Long film. Kinda slow in places but it was alright, some good fighting scenes and whatnot. Quite a dark story!
redwinegoblin

Sounds good! Although its from a comic book isn't it? I tend to avoid them usually...

I saw Quarantine last night, it's a remake of the spanish film .Rec , it was cool -  grisly but not as spooky as the spanish version...remakes are never as good are they?
Em_J

I think you've mentioned the Spanish film before. ^  I recognise the name anyway.

Yes tis a from a comic book, although actually I think it's a graphic novel and they tend to be quite dark anyway. It wasn't like a usual superhero film, all the 'heroes' were pretty violent nasty buggers! And in normal 'hero' films at the end they save the day, but in this they didn't! Millions of people die and several cities get totally destroyed!
Em_J

I watched Serenity last night, tis a sci fi film done by Joss Wheadon... which means that it has a kick-ass female character in it, she was more kick-ass than Buffy!! Was pretty good, had similar sort of zombie-people in it as I am Legend.
April_Rose

^I've heard of that, sounds good!

I watched Slumdog Millionaire last night. Id say it deserves all the Oscars, it's tragic in parts but there are also some hilarious scenes and it's very well done, it's not just about slum kids, the millionaire angle is pretty cool.
Em_J

Yeah it was good! You could see it was sort of similar to Buffy... only the Buffy-type character was a nutter, and a psychic, and she'd have some sort of trigger that'd just set her off and she'd go totally mental.

I don't really fancy Slumdog Millionaire. People keep saying how good it is though.
April_Rose

Hehe, sounds like Jess and Alex combined! Laughing

If you like serious films it's good, it does have that "worthy" thing going on that Oscar winners tend to...
Em_J

She was very Jex-like! Laughing
Em_J

Just seen Easy Virtue. Was actually really good! Really funny. Plus you get to see Ben Barnes virtually naked, and wearing one of the red hunting get-ups. The man's a fox.
Em_J

Can I triple post?!

Just seen Monsters vs Aliens in 3D! Go see it!!! Funniest film I've seen for a long time, actually made me laugh out loud, and if you can catch it in 3D tis excellent. Loved it. Go see!
redwinegoblin

I saw Haunting in Connecticut. Was actually pretty good, there were some proper jumpy moments, although the fact that it was a 15 meant that the cinema was full of chavlets who screeched like banshees every time something even vaguely unsettling happened....
Em_J

Just seen The Lost Boys. Is it a comedy?! I couldn't work out whether it was supposed to be funny or not, I was cracking up though. Beyond cheese-tastic. And Kiefer looks like Eddie Izzard, so I couldn't really get over Eddie Izzard the vampire. Laughing
redwinegoblin

it's definately tongue-in-cheek , but Keifer Sutherland looking like Eddie Izzard?! Whaaa?!
Em_J

It's like they're twins! Laughing
redwinegoblin

No way! Laughing
Em_J

I'm gonna find some pictures to compare! Laughing
redwinegoblin

They've got similar hair I guess, but that's where it ends!
Em_J

The whole thing! The face and everything!!

Eddie Izzard

Kiefer Sutherland.

Laughing
redwinegoblin

Not even slightly alike! Eddie Izzard's face is a completely different shape Laughing
Em_J

If they were stood the same and put their faces at the same angle it'd be like twins!
redwinegoblin

No it wouldn't! Look at their jaws, Keifers is pointy and Eddie's is completely rounded Laughing
Em_J

That's the only difference!! They could be brothers. Laughing
redwinegoblin

Distant cousins maybe!
Em_J

Laughing
April_Rose

No Way do they look alike! Laughing red thought it was cheesy as well. It is meant to be funny but maybe it's just different if you didn't watch it first when you were younger....I'll always love it!
Em_J

The resemblance is uncanny! I thought it was an ok film, not fantastic! But it wasn't bad.
