TennisAnyone here into tennis? i tend to watch Wimbledon when it's on, I have been since I was a kid, used to watch Martina Navratilova (I'm showing my age now) and Steffi Graf, I always preferred the women's to the men's, but I like watching the men's now as well. Used to watch it then go out and hit a ball against a wall for hours on end, determined to be a great tennis star myself one day (I was only about 7 at the time)
Of the current crop of players I like Serena Williams and Raphael Nadal, I simply cannot stand Federer, don't even know why, he just bores me when I watch him. Good to seee him beaten in the French Open at least but I'd say he's a good shot of winning on the grass court in Wimbledon.

I used to like Tennis at one point, but now it just bores the hell out of me. I can't stand Andrew Murray but I like Hewitt even if he is an Aussie.

From an Irish point of view I think it's hilarious that one minute Murray was "that young scot" and then when he started to do better than Henman it was "The rising British star Andrew Murray" !!

Yeah, can't stand the bloke, has a big ego and always blames tiredness for defeats. Did like Henman at some point but he should just retire now.

i don't like henman, people still think he's good but he's never won anything (not to my knowledge anyway)
i used to play tennis a while back, tis a fun game to play . . . bit boring to watch

I do like to play but can't really get anyone to play with! I enjoy watching it too though.

the big matches are good to watch - is too hot to play tennis at the mo anyway!
April_Rose
Yeah it's too hot to do much of anything at the moment! Not that I'm complaining!

i know! but i've got to go and run now!!! i'm going to melt
April_Rose
Well good luck! I hope it's fun in spite of the heat!

Man I was so bad at Tennis, which is weird because I was always pretty good at cricket and badminton. Badminton is a far better sport!
April_Rose
You would say that since you were better at it though of course!
I played badminton very briefly when I was 11 and they had it in the hall in the village I lived in then, was pretty short lived though as we moved. I enjoyed it though.
I don't understand the first thing about cricket, it's not really big here at all, though when Ireland were in the World Cup it seemed to generate a bit of interest.

I love cricket, even the test matches I like, none of my mates do though which is a shame. Used to like rugby too until England started doing rubbish.
April_Rose
Yeah interestingly I only started getting into rugby when ireland started doing well... must start a topic on it in here now actually. Feel free to start a cricket one by the way! There might be some other people here that like it!
Xarcabard

I wasn't one of those fans that was interested in rugby only when England won the world cup either. I just lost complete interest when the likes of Martin Johnson and Neil Back retired. Me and my mate were trying to name the whole England team that won the world cup in the pub last week, we were there for ages.

i love cricket! playing it is ace (watching is rather boring - unless you're lucky like me and they get people out when you turn the tv on )
April_Rose
One of you guys should set up a cricket thread then, i know nothing about it so I'm not doing it!
Jenny*
i think i might just do that!!

Andrew Murray has backed out of Wimbledon through injury. That'll cut a lot of Interest then.
April_Rose
Yeah, there seems to be a lot of stuff about wanting a British winner, and it certainly won't be henman! is he even still playing?
personally I just hope bloody Federer doesn't win it yet again!
Xarcabard
I think Federer will win again, but a I hope I'm wrong. Tim plays Moya in the first round, I think he'll accept that, could have been a lot harder. Moya is a former world number 1 though so he better be careful.

I'm more interested in the women's, mainly because when I was a kid I wanted to play at Wimbledon myself! Haven't seen the draw yet but I don't have a lot on this week so I'll probably watch some of the matches, in the background anyway.
Xarcabard
I'll be interested in the women as well *cough* I mean then women's matches
A lot more competitive and better to watch I think
April_Rose
Yeah yeah yeah....what's your opinion on the grunting then? As everyone seems to have one?
Xarcabard
Oh yeah, I don't even have to turn the volume up on the TV when Sharapova is playing!
April_Rose
I think some of them exaggerate it because it's become such a talking point, but god there's a lot of people complain about it! It's not like the tennis is that boring that people should be looking for something else to talk about!
Xarcabard
I find it silly that its microscoped like that, I don't mind it at all.

Well rain stopped Wimbledon starting till now, it's finally underway, what a surprise Federer won the first game... *sigh* still, hopefully someone will provide him with a bit of a challange later on at least.
