S03E18 - D.O.C. - Official Discussion thread

Discuss S03E18 - D.O.C (Sun centric) here

It was ok. Thought it was gonna be a really good one but it wasn't that brilliant. Sun's flashbacks were a bit dull. Liked Charlie getting a bit violent! That was good. I knew it was Jin's all along, feel a bit smug now! Very Happy And the ending was just stupid. That better be explained pretty soon, cos something's not right!!
Xarcabard

Better than I expected it would be. Hurley was really funny in everything he said in the episode, Charlie was alright, the kung fu kick by Jin was awesome and the reappearence by Mikhail was shocking (in a good way). The flashbacks only really showed us how much Sun loved Jin so they were below par but it was a decent episode and had a brilliant ending with Naomi Surprised.

It had hardly any Jack and even though the one scene he did have was annoying it helped the episode that he wasn't in for long. The lack of Kate wasn't something I was happy about and the indications that she's pregnant?! Oh please don't let Kate die!!

I'm going to say that I agree that it was a bit slow, but many things were brought to light, and also gave us a few more things to think about.
Like the statement about the plane crashing & there being no survivors. My thought on that one thing is that Ben had contact to the outside world at that point. He also seemed to almost know or expect that the plane (And the losties) were coming while he was in the shack with Juliet and Mikhail(sp).
So if he did know that lends me to bring up a few things.
If he knew they were coming was this planned for a long time? I'd say yes. I believe that Widmore. Hanso, dharma....Whomever is actually running the show. They found individuals they thought were either expendable for whatever reason, and also people that they needed to be there. I believe that the initial vision of Jack and where he was during the opening of the Pilot epi proves that.
So with this epi the fact that they continued to focus all the way through on 2 things.
1. The power that Sun's family wields.
2. Shame.
With the first one that alone would be a good enough reason to for him to have planned Jin's route for the watches he was delivering to enable them to be on flight 815 (or the possible fake one now) to get them out of the way, and avoid any possible shame that Jin's past could bring. Also the fact that Sun pretty much blackmailed Paik could be another reason for this.
That brings in the "shame" part. They focused all epi long on this. WHY??? I'm thinking because until Juliet did the ultra-sound that Sun really thought that the baby wasn't Jin's. So her shame, and the possible need to reveal to Jin (what he already knew) that the baby wasn't his could have been worse than actually having it be Jin's, and now knowing that she's going to die. Or at least thinking she's going to die.
Well that's enough for now. i'll write mroe later if i have time. Not bad for a 2nd post I guess. Smile

Agree about Jin, he rocked out in this ep! I was thinking 'go Jin! Karate-time that bastard!'

I have been wondering for a while if he was going to be more involved as time goes on, and I think we're seeing that he's being trusted more and more by most of the losties. He's earned all of the respect that he has through his actions. So where does that lead him? To bigger and better things? Or is it going to be a big build up to him dying?
Em_J

I hope Jin doesn't die, I really like him now. Especially, like you say, now that he's getting more involved.
Xarcabard

There would be no point to killing Jin, his character dieing wouldn't make a big impact but his characters not a waste so he's better off living. Like Hurley, he operates better as a supporting character, he has really good scenes when playing second fiddle to someone ie the sawyer scenes he's had have been great.

My fear in him dying stems from the way the show in general has always killed of the characters. Boone, Shannon, A.L., Eko (bit of an exception there), Libby. They all seemed to be coming into their own as not only characters, but also within the group as a whole. They started becoming an integral part of the group, and **POOF** snuffed. I hope that isn't what happens with Jin.

WOW WOW WOW WOW! Awsome episode!
Started slow, but picked up the pace as it moved along. I didn't really have any high expectations for this ep, because of how much the last one let me down, but this 1 was amazing! Kate pregnant?! Gah!!!!! I dont know what to say to that. . . so Sawyers soon to be a father of 2? Why couldn't she of slept with Jack! Sad This is gunna cause more problems for Jaters!
Anyway, I thought the flashbacks were pretty good. Glad that they werent too much of a filler, there have been a few pointless flashbacks lately. Im also glad that Jin is the father of the baby, although I already would of guessed that.
The ending was amazing! There havent relly been many big moments that left me gobsmacked, but this 1 did. WOW.
Em_J

Am I the only one who really hated the ending?! I mean really hated the ending! It just felt like lazy writing to me.

Bludy hell...!?? sorry if im not aloud to say that but ive jus seen the ep and well, that ending was a bit of a corker to say the least. its left me a bit speechless i must say expect for the words 'WHAT' and 'WHY' and 'HOW IN THE BLAZES DID THAT HAPPEN??'. Oh and oh my god kate might be pregnant and her and Sun could DIE. Lord almighty what the hell are the lost making people doing to us. and the wierd polish/ russian dude is alive (i had a feeling that mite happen actually). he must have taken one of them pills that u see in hospital dramas and wot not that make u go all foamy at the mouth so pple thnik ur havin a seisure or woteva. but if hes alive how come everyone else whos dead is still well..dead?! GOD this island is soo skrewed up.whats goin on.maybe ther on some of sorta parralel unniverse wher they didnt all die in the crash?! its startin to really infuraite me now i tell u.an i bet theyll end this seaon which evn more unresolved than eva b4 if thas possible.anyway im supposed to be spechless amnt i.
Xarcabard

Did anyone catch what Naomi said to Patchy which he translated to thank you. I'm sure it actually translated to "I am not alone".

Decent episode for me, regards the ending first, my first thought was "conspiracy" - we know there are big companies involved in the island (Hanso, Widmore, Mittelos) and that suggests that when the plane crashed there was money (and presumably people that could be killed off and used to replace the passengers) available to make it look like the survivors had been killed so there would be no more searching.

Flashbacks weren't great, although they tied in to Sun's storyline a lot so I can see why they were done.

Mikhail appearing was very interesting, for one, if he was alive why wasn't he back with Ben&co? I presume he would know where to find them if they weren't in Otherville. As for how he is alive, that really poses some questions - did he fake his death? We know the fences are dangerous as they even turned Smokey away, but was it a serious injury rather than death, and the island being what it is, he healed?

Glad they got the phone back or I would have got annoyed, maybe Sayid can do something with it?

As for Juliet, we know more about why she is in the losties camp now, and the whole sperm count thing really doses questions as to whether Kate could be pregnant - I for one am delighted she never slept with Jack, and I hope she and the little Skater baby are fine!

I wonder what will happen with Sun, and of course there are still bigger questions anyway about the island - no one till Ben gets cancer, it cures Rose and Locke and Jin's infertility, and yet sperm count is crazy high but women die in pregnancy. It's odd to say the least.

I don't think we'll get an answer on the pregnancy stuff for a while, as Juliet said that women tend to get sick in their second trimester, which begins in the fourth month - the three seasons we've had so far have only been three months, so it'll b a question for the next series more than this one I feel.

Can't believe there's only 3 episodes left Shocked how will I survive without Lost for six months Crying or Very sad

who wud have thought that the guy who they heard in the jungle coming towards them wud be mikhail i dnt get it i mean he died didnt he blood coming outta his ears his mouth dnt get it.noami says in the end that they did find 815 and the passengers are dead so wts is it a dream.

No way - like I said above, I think it's a conspiracy.

As for Mikhail - maybe like someone posted he faked it, but the fences really do have a sonic thing - but maybe they don't actually kill, maybe they just put him in a temporary coma or something. Sure was unexpected though!

Or like someone at my forum has mentioned. It does absolutely nothing...or at least it didn't when Locke pushed him. I mean....didn't Juliet have to turn it on to avoid Smokie? Also when she turned it on you could hear a humming sound. I don't remember hearing anything like that during the time when they pushed him.
April_Rose

Interesting, I suppose that would be a possibility, the Others never asked Kate/Sayid/Locke how they got past the fence, so it might be the case!

i still wonder just how powerful the paik family is... was the plane crashed to protect the honor of the family? was jin's heritage at risk of being exposed again? was sun's infidelity about to hit the news? or was the inability to concieve at risk of coming to the surface? all great factors of losing face.... could the paiks be powerful enough to arrange the crash and cover it up with fake wreckage???

new thought !!!! did paik know of the island and want an heir enough to have sun and jin end up there so that an heir could be conceived? but then, why cover it up with found wreckage elsewhere?
April_Rose

Interesting, I don't know the Paik family would have been powerful enough on their own, but for all we know Sun's father might have been in touch with Widmore or someone else involved in the island, so it's possible he was involved I suppose! I don't think it's them on their own though, I'd say the conspiracy is bigger than that.
lockeslady

true... i agree that paik and widmore together would do something like bring the palne down... or as carlton cuse said in the podcast, it could all be a random event...fate at work in the lives of our LOSTies....

for those who believe in the powers of the universe!!
April_Rose

I'm not a big believer in fate in real life, but I like how it works as a theme of LOST, I think the producers sometimes try to deliberately mislead people with the podcasts too, they like the power they have over us with their great show!

Like the sig by the way! Very Happy
