Robin Hood

Is anyone watching the new BBC drama Robin Hood?! I love it! Esp. Much.
April_Rose

Haven't seen it I'm afraid, been away a lot at the weekends recently, heard it's meant to be funny though? I do love the Robin Hood legends anyway, I'm sure they'll repeat it if it does well so i might catch it then
Em_J

Yeah it is quite funny. The last episode I watched was really sad though!
redwinegoblin

I watched the first one and apart from a bit of hotness potential from Guy of Gisbourne (always go for the baduns!!) there wasn't much to keep me watching past the first episode...was a bit disappointed really!!
April_Rose

MMM, i only saw a bit of one episode but that Guy of Gisborne, oh yeah! he can kidnap me and hold me in a tower anyday!
redwinegoblin

Yep, he's the only one in the cast that doesn't look like he's in Coldplay or Keane... I'm so not convinced by Robin or any of his merry men as fighters at all!!!
April_Rose

They seem a bit wimpy and lacking the brave manliness I'd associate with Robin Hood, I loved reading the stories years ago and I hate it when they try to modernise those kinds of stories and make them all racially inclusive and non-sexist, it's trying to rewrite history and it's more sexist and racist not to acknowledge the past and all its problems, pretend that everything was the same as it was now, all pc.

Making Robin Hood such a little wuss doesn't do anyone any good - what's the impression I got from the short bit of it I saw anyway.
Em_J

But the guy who plays Much is hot!! Isn't he?! . . . just me?
redwinegoblin

Ummm..don't geddit myself...sorry - it's evil ole Gisbourne for me every time!
Em_J

But he has greasy hair! Razz
redwinegoblin

Yeah, but he's sooooo baaaad ( I have issues...)
Guest

i havnt watched it yet but will defn im hearing lot of good things about this show.
bagels

oh my god i cant believe it took me so long to come across this thread. i LOVE robin hood but i particulary love GUY OF GISBOURNE. Hmm he's lovely. RWG you are so rite he's such a badass but that is soo atractive an sexy in most characters. His real names Richard Armitage for any one who wants to no.He's also in a drama from a while back called north and south dunno if any of you watched that were again he played a brooding, gruff nothern mill owner who comes across as a kinda swine at first but he's lovely really.epsecially wen he falls for margaret.its so sweet.not that im obssesed wiv th guy or anything.not as much as with sawyer anyway.
lockeslady

i enjoy robin hood... neat storytelling!!
redwinegoblin

Mmmm....Guy of Gisbourne...*dribble*

i'll drool on his pillowcase too!!! Razz
Em_J

I've got the series all on dvd now. Hopefully the next lot will be on tv soon! I still think Much is hot...
redwinegoblin

My sister's obsessed with it and has all the DVDs - I must admit I tend to only watch it for Richard Armitage!
Em_J

The new series starts tonight!! Just seen the advert for it. Yay!
redwinegoblin

Don't reckon I'll be watching it, even the lushness of Richard Armitage isn't enough to tempt me!
Em_J

Madness! I can't wait!!
redwinegoblin

I ended up watching a bit of this but gave up! Just too daft!
Em_J

I love it!! Thought it was ace. Plus not only is Much hot, but Alan a Dale, also hot! Laughing I got attacked by a bloody cranefly while I was watching this, didn't want to be interrupted, so grabbed a cushion of the sofa and swatted the bloody thing with it. Lightening reactions. Wink
redwinegoblin

Wow, ninja cranefly swatting. Impressive! Laughing I do have to agree though, from the bit I watched I saw that Alan bloke in a totally different light, heh heh. Still preferring Guy of Gisbourne though....
Em_J

Nah, all he does is sneer! Tis a good show, I love all the cheesy stuff in it!
redwinegoblin

Can't beat a good sneering villain, much more appealing than the heroes! Laughing
Em_J

Well I guess Alan is a villain now too, though you probably didn't watch it til the end! He's gone to the dark side...
redwinegoblin

Really?! Excellent! Might be worth watching then....
Em_J

Laughing I like it for the fighting and the story too... not just the hot blokes! Honest!
redwinegoblin

I just find the story really daft! Like the random sheriff's sister turning up - where did she spring from?! Marion gets on my wick too - how has nobody realised that the night-watchman is actually her in a Phantom of the Opera mask eh?!
Em_J

But it's funny!! I think it's meant to be that way... Though it was ever so slightly weird when his sister starting pulling that latex mask thing off her face!

I was thinking the same thing about Marion/Nightwatchman, how can they not see it's a woman?!
redwinegoblin

I think what makes it bizarre is that the two actors playing Robin and Marion seem to be the only two not in on the joke! They play it dead straight!
Em_J

Marion does especially. I still love it though. Looks like it's gonna be good next week!
redwinegoblin

I think it's one of those shows that I'd watch if I was feeling lazy and there was nothing else on , but i'm still a little bit meh about the whole thing!
Em_J

Craziness. Tis the best thing on tv!
redwinegoblin

Heh heh , maybe I'll stick with it for a couple of weeks...try and get more into it...especially as Alan's gone evil!
Em_J

Laughing Yep, give it a go. Wink
xkatiex

loveee this show!! but what was with the ending?!!  Surprised  wont spoil it if no ones seen it yet..but how are they gonna do another series?! will have to wait and see  Razz
redwinegoblin

I did watch the final episode but I've not really paid much attention to it throughout the series. I did notice they

Spoiler:

killed off that Carter bloke

which sucked, cos he was fit!!
Em_J

Laughing Yeah I thought that sucked too! ^

I missed a whole chunk of it. Was too distracted by this site! Laughing I felt really sorry for Guy though. Sad
xkatiex

omg i totally agree with you RWG!! no need for that, should have seen me & my sister shouting at the screen  Razz
redwinegoblin

Yeah it totally sucked. No reason for me to be watching season 3 now!
lockeslady

what in the world are they going to do with season 3 if half the cast is gone? Evil or Very Mad
Em_J

Apparently there's going to be some Merlin programme being shown instead, so I don't even know if there will be a season three!! Sad I also heard that it was all a dream... which kinda sucks too.
lockeslady

Em_J wrote:

i want marion to be back! crybaby  crybaby  Oh My GOD!
Em_J

Well the new Merlin show is definitely on cos I've seen it advertised now. Now sure what's happening with Robin Hood! Sad
lockeslady

just read where robin hood is coming back for a final 3rd season with an angry robin and a spiffy series finale..... who will the sherrif make fun of in the last season and how wicked can he be?
redwinegoblin

I don't tend to watch this, but sis is obsessed! Particularly with Guy of Gisbourne Laughing Although it's not going to be for a while yet, apparently they haven't started filming yet...
lockeslady

redwinegoblin wrote:

he is a bit hunky! so this may end up being my spring or summer enterrtainment... final season ... may be worth it to see who survives!
Em_J

I thought it had been dropped?! I hope it's back though cos I love it! (And Alan a Dale!)
redwinegoblin

Sis says that they're doing one more season, because the blokey who plays Robin is quitting after that, and Guy of Gisbourne has got a better gig being in Spooks...
Em_J

Well I'm glad they're doing one more! I hope they hurry up and bring the second lot out on dvd.
redwinegoblin

You know, I'm sure season 2's on in our flat the whole time.. hang on....

Yeah, sis has got season 2 on DVD!
Em_J

What?! Laughing I didn't think it was out!! I suck at knowing stuff! I've been waiting ages for that. Is it all split into volumes like the first season? I'm gonna look on Play...
redwinegoblin

It's in a nice foldy case with pics on it. I think it came from Amazonbecause it was quite pricey on Play...
Em_J

Yeah I just checked Play and Amazon. Play's like £40 and Amazon is £23! Though I've just found it cheaper again from Spicy Tronics (Confused) so might get it from there. If I'd known it would've been on my Christmas list!
Em_J

I know it's only me who watches it, but still:

Quote:
Jonas Armstrong who plays Robin Hood is to bow out of series three in an explosive finale.
Jonas Armstrong as Robin

BBC Publicity have confirmed that Jonas Armstrong aka Robin Hood will be leaving the show next year. How the legacy unfolds after Jonas leaves is in itself mysterious and intriguing, and guaranteed to make fans desperate to find out what happens next.
Lucy Griffiths as Marian and Richard Armitage as Gisborne

Series 3 returns in 2009 and Robin is older and tougher, hell bent on revenge following the tragic murder of Marian by Gisborne and the Sheriff's failure to kill Prince John. The Sheriff is more precarious and unpredictable than ever. There's also the much anticipated arrival of Friar Tuck who joins the gang.
Jonas Armstrong as Robin and Lucy Griffiths as Marian

Jonas Armstrong says, "Playing Robin Hood has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Over the last three years I've met some wonderful people and have only amazing memories to take with me. I'm grateful to the fans for their support and to all the cast and crew for their friendship and loyalty throughout, but the time has come to take on new challenges and look at new opportunities."
Jonas Armstrong as Robin

Executive Producer, Foz Allan says, "We cannot confirm the series climax nor can we guarantee who will survive and who won't. You will have to watch it to see! But we can assure you Robin's exit will be unmissable."

Robin Hood Series 3 is currently filming in Budapest and will return to BBC One in 2009 for another 13 episodes.

(I think that's meant to say Prince Richard, not Prince John!)

Can't wait!!!

redwinegoblin

My sis loves this so she'll appreciate the update - is that pic of Gisbourne?! Well Hello my pretty, heh heh...
Em_J

Yeah, posted that pic for you! Laughing
redwinegoblin

Tis much appreciated! Laughing
Em_J

He looks really different with long hair!
redwinegoblin

He does, he looks a bit vampire-y too I reckon. I suppose he's gonna go proper evil now he killed Marian...see, I know all the plots cos my sis has the DVD on all the time!
Em_J

I just finished watching season two, forgot how good it was! Laughing Love that they killed Marion! Just cos it's quite a brave thing to do.
redwinegoblin

I love that they killed her, but mainly because she irritates the hell out of me Laughing
Em_J

I don't mind her! She should've gone with Guy instead of Robin though.
redwinegoblin

I just find the pair of them unbearably lame, especialy Robin! I always side with the baddies...
Em_J

Robin irritates me, but I like the rest of his men. Especially Allan. love4
redwinegoblin

I like Allan, but he does have a mahooosive nose Laughing
Em_J

I have noticed this, but he's still hot!! Laughing
Em_J

Tiger Aspect Productions' hit series Robin Hood returns to BBC One this Spring with a host of new faces. During 13 action-packed episodes the quest continues for justice and freedom for all.

It is three months since Marian's untimely death and Robin (Jonas Armstrong) is a changed man. Tougher, he's sacked his gang since they all returned from the Holy Land. Not only that – he's hell bent on avenging his wife's tragic end.

Jonas says: "Robin's back from the Holy Land but without Marian, the beat of his life. He's questioning everything he ever lived for and now it's pay back time and he's become obsessed with killing Gisborne. The big question is will he take his mortal enemy's life?

"It's great to bring Robin back a darker, more mature hero and fans will see that once he's come to terms with his personal loss, he's a stronger more powerful force than ever before."

Her slayer, Guy of Gisborne, (Richard Armitage), is a marked man. But does Gisborne care if he lives or dies? After all he's killed the woman he loved. After his heinous act what's left to save him from a life of evil? Will Robin kill his nemesis or let him live crippled by guilt and remorse?

Fuelled by anger and grief, Robin seems stuck in a downward spiral, but a new beacon of hope arrives in the form of a travelling monk called Tuck (David Harewood), who soon gets our hooded hero back on track.

David Harewood (Criminal Justice, Blood Diamond), who plays Tuck, says: "Creating a modern, strong Tuck for a 21st century audience is a terrific opportunity and a real challenge because many of us already have a picture of a roly-poly monk who loves his food and drink.

"But the new Tuck's heart and mind is elsewhere. He's a warrior poet, a man of vision and imagination, who has a very hands-on approach when it comes to justice and freedom, and believe me you want him on your side!"

Meanwhile, the wickedness of the Sheriff (Keith Allen) continues unabated. A spirited Locksley girl named Kate (Joanne Froggatt) objects to her brother's forced conscription. As a result she inadvertently gets caught up in the cause of Robin Hood and becomes an indispensable member of the gang.

Joanne Froggatt (The Street, Life On Mars), who plays Kate, says: "Joining the ranks of Robin Hood has been so much fun. I've learnt to fight and run for my life all at the same time! Kate's a tomboy with a big and fearless heart, but soon it's a question of who will win her undivided love and attention. As they say the path to true love never runs smoothly."

An unexpected addition to the Gisborne family, Guy's little sister, Isabella, played by television newcomer Lara Pulver, arrives and becomes a complication both Robin and Gisborne can do without.

Lara says: "Television breaks don't get better than Isabella and even arch-baddie Gisborne's feisty little sister's got issues with him! She's a real 'tour de force' and so much happens to her in this epic third series. Making Robin Hood, being part of this wonderful show, has been the best fun ever and a real-life adventure for me from start to finish."

As the threat of Prince John (Toby Stephens) looms larger Robin and Gisborne have to reach an uneasy truce as it emerges that they may have rather more in common than they thought.

Tiger Aspect's Greg Brenman says: "Series three is bigger, bolder and more action-packed than ever before. From the get-go Robin's turbo energy compels the series forward. As well as working with our now-established and well-loved star cast it has been great fun to welcome and work with Lara, Joanne, David, Toby. They and all the other new characters add so much texture and fun to this modern day interpretation of the legend that is Robin Hood."

*sigh* It sounds like they may ruin this show. Sad
redwinegoblin

Ooh that sounds bad.... none of the new characters sound good at all!
Em_J

No they sound sucky!! And I don't like that Robin's 'sacked' his men either!!
redwinegoblin

Nah, sounds bad. And the bloke who plays Robin is too teeny and weedy to play a menacing , tortured anti-hero type...
Em_J

Yeah I can't really see that at all. Sad Will still watch it when it's on though.
Em_J

Just interested, RWG, what does your sister make of this series?! I'm sooooooooo disappointed with it. Sad The episode that was just on sucked ass.
redwinegoblin

She thinks it's massively dodgy too. Like they should have ended in the last season when they killed Marion off.
I think she's watching it now purely for Richard Armitage lusting Laughing
Em_J

They should definitely have ended it last season.

I think Guy might be kill off soon. Apparently there's three major deaths coming up, blokey who plays Robin is leaving so it'll be him, I think Sam Troughton (Much) is leaving so it'll probably be him, then I was just reading on IMDB that lots of people think the third death will be guy.

I hate the fact that they plan to carry the series on with no Robin and have this stupid 'Archer' character come into it.
redwinegoblin

Yeah, I keep saying to Lou that Guy's gonna die. now they're making him go on this mission to save his brother, and he's probably going to redeem himself and be a hero, he's so gonna die!

They're kind of dragging the whole show to a slow death, aren't they? I mean, how can you have Robin Hood without Robin Hood actually being in it! Tis daft!
Em_J

It sucks. It's so frustrating, it's like whoever's writing it now never even watched the last two series! I mean, I hope it is different writers, I read that it was, but I read it from fans. Everybody hates Kate too and that Alan, Much and John get no screen time.

I'm only watching it for Joe Armstrong love but he's hardly in it!
redwinegoblin

Which one's Joe Armstrong? Is that Much?

Yeah, tonight's was the daftest yet - how have they gone two seasons without mentioning that Guy and Robin grew up together?! And just to throw it in now, rubbish!
Em_J

Alan. Though I love Much too!

Yeah I kept thinking I'd missed something in the last two seasons! It wasn't mentioned before was it!

The dude who played Robin's dead played a werewolf in Being Human, so I could only think of him as a werewolf. Laughing
redwinegoblin

Ah yeah, Alan. He's got lovely eyes, although a mahoosive nose!

I don't think they had mentioned the Robin/Guy almost being brothers thing before - Lou was angry about it as she's watched every one (we have the DVDs...groan) and it's never mentioned!
Em_J

(Heh, Robin's dad that was meant to say, not dead!)

Yeah Alan has uber pretty eyes! He made a joke about his nose in one of the eps that was quite funny.

I've watched every one twice! Laughing I watched them all again before this series started.
redwinegoblin

Yeah, that made me chuckle too. He is quite sweet, and it's a bummer that he's not in it a lot - none of them are really.

Lou only gets to watch the DVDs when I'm not at home, or when I'm really engrossed in the RPG Laughing
Em_J

Yeah that's what sucks, Alan, Much and John hardly in it! I'm not bothered about John cos he was always dull, but I like Alan and Much!

She has good taste!!
redwinegoblin

I think it's always sucked, that's why she doesn't watch it unless I'm occupied, because I can't help making snarky comments about the sheer cheesyness of it all! Laughing
Em_J

But it's meant to be like that! I've read lots of people whinging about it cos it's historically inaccurate but it's not a historical drama! I think it's funny, and the first two series were ace.
redwinegoblin

I think the problem is that the guy playing Robin often seems like he's the only one not in on the joke. All the others overact and camp it up and a lot of the time he plays it so straight and sincere it's painful Laughing
Em_J

He was on GMTV not long ago and he was so miserable!
redwinegoblin

So, Archer's quite fit! He's much better than Shovel-face Laughing It might be quite fun to watch if he's going to be the main character...
Em_J

Shovel-face! Laughing Laughing Laughing He's not bad looking but God I hate the character so much!! He's trying to be a (bad) Jack Sparrow.
redwinegoblin

He is really badly written , but he looks good Laughing Didn't think of Jack Sparrow but now you mention it...
Em_J

Some of the things he was saying, he was sort of putting a Jack Sparrow stylee to and it just made me cringe!
redwinegoblin

I wasn't really listening to the words Laughing But he was always gonna be cheesy, all the characters they've introduced recently are!
Em_J

I hate them all!! crybaby (apart from Much and Allan) crybaby
redwinegoblin

I hate Much, I've always hated him Laughing
Em_J

How can you hate Much?! He's funny!
redwinegoblin

He's a dimwit! And he has a creepy, stalkery obsession with Robin...
Em_J

He's really interesting in the first series when they talk about the wars and all that! Plus, he's funny! He loves Robin and Robin's always a complete arse to him.
redwinegoblin

I think that's what's irritating about him! He's a total doormat and never fights, he just hangs around being a bit of a cling-on.
