New Characters in Season 4Andrea Roth has been signed up to play a recurring character is season 4 of Lost.
Andrea Roth has signed up to join the cast of Lost in a recurring role.
The actress currently plays Denis Leary's long-suffering wife Janet Gavin in Rescue Me. It has not been confirmed what character she will play in the cult hit.
However, a recent Lost casting was looking for a female character in her 30s to play "a tough, no-nonsense and beautiful" therapist who can be "overly controlling and obsessive", leading to speculation that this is the part Roth has picked up.
It is expected that she will still star on Rescue Me and shoot her Lost scenes in Hawaii, before any filming for the fifth season of the former commences.
Also, Fisher Stevens will play "Minkowski", the mysterious voice on the other end of the phone when Jack phoned Naomi's boat.
Veteran TV star and Short Circuit main man Fisher Stevens has joined the cast of the ABC's show as the mysterious, and singularly named, Minkowski, per the Hollywood Reporter.
The character factored heavily into last season's finale but has yet to be seen on the show. He has, however, been heard.
Minkowski was the one on the other end of the satellite phone found by Jack and his band of merry castaways, and informed the island ringleader that the group would in fact be rescued.
Per usual, no details of the character have been disclosed, other than the assumption that he is somehow connected to the character of Naomi, who brought the phone onto the island and claims to have been sent to find and rescue the crash survivors. Also per usual, the lack of concrete backstory at has not stopped the Lost fanboards from erupting in a flurry of speculation.
Losties have already linked the character's name to that of German mathematician and physicist Hermann Minkowski, a connection seeming all the more likely given that the latter is known for popularizing the theory that time, something the Lost writers have proven they enjoy playing with, exists alongside space as a fourth dimension.
Of course, viewers will unfortunately have to wait a few more months to see whether the connection bears out.
The series' fourth season kicks off in February after an intentionally extended hiatus. The show will then run rerun-free through the finale in May.
As for Stevens, who has had high-profile guest stints on Frasier, Friends and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, the Lost role marks his first appearance on the small screen in several years.

Sounds interesting...although isn't the "beautiful, tough" woman exactly the same as every other Lost woman they've written recently?! It's strange that the writers seem to only be able to flesh out the male characters , whilst leaving pretty much every female character they write in to be exactly the same... yawn....

This is why I don't really like new characters, they all seem to be pretty much the same! Especially the women.

Maybe I'm just a wee bit cranky today, but it does seem to me that they're the same - and how come some of the blokes they bring in are allowed to not be total lookers but the women always have to be gorgeous but a bit two-dimensional...

Hmm, you might have a point there! The only female character I really like is Kate, and even she got on my nerves a lot in season 3.
I'd have thought it might be better for them to further develop Cindy or the Sheriff woman than introduce another Other (I presume that's who the woman is)
....Still, they're bound to be better than Nikki and Paulo.

Oh yeah, forgot about Cindy!! Actually, she's about the only female character in Lost I like and she's hardly in it!!

Yeah Cindy was okay, at least she had a bit of an edge and was mysterious....

Danielle I like too actually, so that's two female characters! Why don't they develop these more rather than bring in new ones?!

Yeah I like Danielle too - they keep promising a flashback for her don't they? Then it never happens!!

They said season 3 and we didn't get it, now they're saying season 4....I think a flashback about her woudl reveal a lot of stuff they wanted to keep secret, but maybe the way things are meant to change now regards the Others and the Other Others and the way Alex and Danielle were reunited they'll give us her flashback, it would need to be good considering how long they've kept us waiting! I like her too actually, she's mysterious with a nice edge.
