JRR TolkienI'm sure there are other fans out there...
I read the Hobbit when I was 10 but didn't read Lord of the Rings till I was 18 (and shall we say, in an experimental phase?) so that was pretty cool at the time, I also love The Silmarrillion and Unfinished Tales, I love the way he created a whole world with a history and mythology and everything in so much detail, not sure if I want to read this latest one pieced together by his son though (Children of Hurin I think it's called)...
I enjoyed the films, sat in the cinema saying "but that's not how it really happened" a few times but in general I thought they made a good job of it, considering how some books get completely butchered.

I read the Hobbit and hated it!! Saw the films before I read The Lord of the Rings and they kinda got me a bit obsessed! I read the book after and I prefer the films I reckon! Probably should've read the book first!

I'd say it is weird seeing the films first, you'd have a really different idea in your head of some stuff. A lot of people got mad they left out Tom Bombadil, but on the whole that isn't that important to the book, I didn't mind that.

Yeah I knew that about Tom Bombadil and when I read the book I thought thank God they did leave him out cos I thought he was God awful!!

I don't think he's awful but the verse-speaking can get a bit irritating after a while!

I wanted to kill him! Glad they left the other stupid hobbit out of it too!

Oh yeah, I think there is! He stays behind in the house when the rest of them go on towards Bree isn't it? I'd forgotten!

Yeah that's it! I can't remember what his name is properly though!
