If they DO set him free there is chances that he wont leave cause he might want to find out about these people. Why they want to kill and if there is any way off the island. So Jack might play the Hero by being the villian for a while

i really like the different interpretation here of jack... you see him as arrogant and the americans see him as confident! we do have a tendency to be more materialistic and focussed on self... there seems to be so little we will do for the other guy... unless we are at war... we need an enemy to survive and often create one to do so... so some one like jack becomes confident for us, not arrogant.

it's just different....

That is interesting, the cultural difference there - to be fair there are a lot of Jack fans on this side of the atlantic as well though, just that we tend to shout a lot of them down as soon as they come into this forum Laughing
