Gaelic GamesI don't know if there's anyone Irish on here apart from myself and Bloodyrockgod, but I thought I'd start a topic on Gaelic games anyway, just in case!
Donegal lost the Ulster semi-final last week (boohiss) but were drawn against Leitrim today in the qualifiers so we should get into the next round handy enough!
I'm not big into hurling as we're crap at it....
Anyway, in case the rest of you are interested, Gaelic football is a bit like Aussie rules football, hence there's a compromise rules tournament every few years, though that might not be happening again for a while after what happened last time (lots of violence - being honest I don't really know all the particulars of the rules myself, but to score you can score a goal, which is the equivalent of three points, or score a point, which is putting the ball over the goal but within the posts (which go up a long way).
Hurling is the second fastest field sport in the world (after lacrosse) and the scoring works the same way as in gaelic football. it does occasionally descend into men beating each other with sticks, but not that often...
Both games are amateur, though the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) makes an absolute fortune every time they fill Croke Park.
