Flashforwards have kind of ruined it for me.It's taken me this long to catch up on a couple of episodes of Lost - I've just watched The Constant and The Other Woman last night and today.
The problem I have is that I'm not as excited about the episodes now and I'm not sure why. I think it's the flashforwards. I'm not really loving the 'Oceanic 7' storyline and answering the big "do they get off the island?" question in the way of flashforwards has taken some of the enjoyment out of the new epsiodes.
It could just be new season blues - I got a bit fidgety in season 2 when they brought in Ana Lucia, but she fitted in after a while. I guess it's just that they're spending so much time on the stories off the island at the moment - with characters I don't honestly care about that much (Jack, Juliet!) that it's taking a lot of the focus off the established storyline on the island... and I don't like it!!
So, that's my sulk over, for now.... I'll watch the new episode this weekend, but I can't quite get that "wooo! new episode!" feeling as I'm pretty sure it'll be another flashforward ep. Which sucks.

I still don't like flashforwards, at all. They do ruin it a bit, as it kinda makes it that what we're watching now, on the island, in the past. If that makes sense?! And I hate that if anything dramatic ever happens to Kate or Jack or any of the other Oceanic 6, then we don't need to be that worried about it, as we know they make it off the island anyway! This is why I was moaning about them before! Juliet's wasn't a flashforward though so that wasn't too bad...

No, that was okay. But I think that's it - half the cast are "safe" so there's less point in worrying about whether someone's going to die - like if Locke and Jack were to have a big fight, we know Jack won't die.
It's almost like they've cancelled out the drama for half the cast, which is why the island stuff is less exciting now I think. And the fact that they're turning Sawyer and Hurley into a comedy double act... I'm only loving that in very very small doses...

This is what I was trying to say before, that you should never do that in storytelling! You should never know for definite if a character's safe and we know that now for some of them!
I don't mind Hurley and Sawyer so much, but it's like they're trying to bring back what Charlie and Hurley brought to the show...

Yeah, it's blown the suspense completely in some cases! I'm really finding it hard to care about half of the characters I used to really like.
The Sawyer/Hurley thing does seem like they're trying to bring back a Charlie/Hurley thing...but it's not working. Especially as a few weeks ago at the end of season 3 Sawyer was pretty insane and dark. Now he's big ole' crazy Sawyer, with Hurley as his sidekick..... it's not good.

They need to try and work out what they're doing with Sawyer's character a bit, tis all over the place!
I'm not interested in Jack and Kate and Juliet and any of those in the slightest. I do like the freighter stuff and I loved that Desmond ep, Desmond has got more interesting again which is good! And I still want to see more of Miles!

Yeah, the Desmond ep was cool when I finally got round to watching it! The freighter stuff is cool-ish - I like Miles and I'm warming to Daniel.
They could have got away with not doing flashforwards at all though! That way the next time a polar bear gets loose or something it'd be exciting because anyone could die! Like in Season 2 when Shannon died and there was all that speculation that it might be Sawyer dying , or Sayid getting shot.... if that was trailed now then everyone'd know that Sayid was safe...dull...

I know, that's the worst thing about them, that's the same reason I hate them so much too!

I think I hate them more than I hated Paulo and Nikki when they introduced them

Really?! I'm not sure... I think it's about even for me!

Maybe the memory of Paulo and Nikki has faded a bit for me now i have flashforwards to get angry about!

Em_J

Yeah maybe! Watch a Nikki and Paulo ep again and see if it evens it out...

Yeah, maybe make it a scientific study and publish my conclusions!

I know what you mean about the suspense, the hoping that someone (Jack) will die is kind of futile now. I'm alright with it though as there's no sense of a happily ever after or anything. I particularly liked Sayid's flashforward. It kind of leads me to think that even when it's all over there will still be plenty of room for speculation
As for Sawyer's character though, I agree that it's gone downhill completely. I don't think that's so much to do with the flashforwards though as it is the fact they're trying (yet again) to introduce us to a whole lot of other characters. I found it happened in S2 with the tailies and S3 with the Others, they want to develop the new characters so they focus too hard on them to try to integrate them, forgetting that there's still character development to be done. I think after another couple of episodes they'll sort it out, as they did in previous seasons.
Nikki and Paulo were the worst thing ever for Lost! Just had to get that in at the end!
