CricketIf you're a cricket fan (or want to be one) post here . . .
discuss county and national standards, as well as any cricket you play yourself

Used to play Cricket a couple of years ago and for my school team, batted in the top four and occassionly bowled at medium pace. Was quite good at it before I needed myself a replacement bat and I gradually lost interest for some reason.
I always watch England play on the TV but never seen them live. Since I live in the northeast I sometimes get to see Durham play at the riverside. May sound obvious but my favourite player at the moment is Kevin Pieterson, I just love how he winds the other team up everytime and he has the ability to match it.

I probably watch cricket on tv more than I think, but still prefer playing it - especially bowling, i like that!

I'm pretty dangerous throwing balls at people so its better I can bat instead. I'd probably be rubbish now, but I still practice strokes at times with my bat.

I tried batting and thought I was really good until I batted against a proper bowler - can't see the ball never mind hit it!!
Xarcabard
Its a lot harder then it is on screen isin't it? You have to watch the ball really hard.
Fortunately I used to come into bat against some really slow bowlers. Its really unlikely that you'll play a spinner that can actually spin a ball so as long as you keep your eye on the ball at all times you wouldn't face much of a problem with them.

yeah, unfortuantly for me though my cousin was a speedy bowler (still is) so I didn't really stand much of a chance at hitting it! (I'll leave it to bowling!)
Xarcabard
Yeah bowling does seem easier than fielding or batting.
Used to love it at school when they bowled underarm in PE
Jenny*
they won't let me play at school i asked to play with the boys but the pe teacher won't let me
Xarcabard
Awww how mean!
We used to play it in the school carpark, used to cringe everytime the ball went towards a car.
Jenny*
yeah that happens at my school too . . . some of teachers don't really care but some go really mad
there's also a flat roof at an area of my school with about a hundred balls stuck on it!
Xarcabard
Thats the same as mine had. We used to have to take it in turns to climb onto the roof to get a football or cricket ball (soft ball).
Jenny*
i was gonna say . . . using a proper cricket ball would of broken some windows!
Xarcabard
Yeah, only used a proper cricket ball when playing in a park game. If we used ones at school they'd be a lot of injuries and things broken and I'm not just talking about windows.
Jenny*
i bet!
yeah cricket is definatly a good sport . . . plus I've always wanted to play in a proper game just do I could have sun lotion stripes on my face
Xarcabard
Oh yeah, always wanted that stuff on my face too. . .just for the hell of it
Can be a pain in the field though, drop one catch and your gutted.
Jenny*
yeah I suppose . . . but if it's not that serious it would just be a laugh
each year, we used to have a cricket match in the summer between my family - half on one team and half on the other - i would like to say that was just a ''friendly' game but the adults are so competitive! tis pressurising i say!
Xarcabard
Ha ha! Yeah it was similar with my family and football when I was younger, they pretended not to be interested in the game then they all gang up and begin to sliding tackle me and the rest I'd be playing with.
Jenny*
yeah it always ends up like that! quite funny memories though!
not done that family cricket match in about three years I really want to play again though!
Xarcabard
Yeah I would love to play Cricket again with a new bat, the one I got currently I've had for five years.
Its good though, really fun when played in a group.
Jenny*
yeah, especially when its a 'friendly' - although when it gets competitive it is funny!
Xarcabard
Yeah when its a friendly then someone decides to rugby tackle you on the way down the crease is often funny. . .hurts though.
Jenny*
i bet
the funnist time was when my aunty caught someone out without really knowing what she was doing, and then got rugby tackled to the ground with celebrations!
Xarcabard
That sounds funny. Used to happen a lot at school, whenever someone got a catch he'd be tackled by a teamate in celebration.
Jenny*
yep - tis the only way to celebrate!
Xarcabard
I usually just ran away or dropped the ball on purpose, still got tackled though
Jenny*
just gotta except your fate! luckily girls don't do that sort of thing . . . although i did used to get rugby tackled by the lads! that was quite painful . . .
Xarcabard
Ouch!
I was thinking about going to the fourth test at Durham today but glad I didn't as its raining none stop right now.
Jenny*
its not raining where i am now, but was all day . . . wednesday was the worst though - monsoon rains good and proper! i thought it was ace though! (not so good for cricket though i guess . . .)
Xarcabard
Lucky bugger, its been raining none stop the whole of the day up here.
Jenny*
it can't be that bad . . .
you live in newcastle don't you? I've never been there - well I went to gateshead - that's close isn't it?
Xarcabard
I live in Gateshead actually, just work in Newcastle. They are both right next to each other, not far away at all.
Jenny*
ahhhh . . . .
anyway back to cricket . . .
