Why i don't like Jack. |
|
As many of you know Jack annoys me, so here is a detailed explanation of why. feel free to argue with me but be sure to justify or I will shoot you down, be-ach! lol
I just don't think that Jack is strong enough of a character to carry an episode by himself, he needs to be a hero but this also means he needs to be the centre of attention all the time and when he isn't he starts getting agitated and throwing hissy fits.
All the best Cowboys have Daddy Issues is a prime example of this - he is the doctor and any good doctor would know that his palce is at the camp where people might need him, not traipsing off through the jungle getting his ass kicked by Ethan. if he puts himself in jeopardy he puts the rest of them in jeopardy too as they need him as a doctor, not a leader.
The episode where he nearly kills himself donating way too much blood to Boone is another great example of this.
A true leader would recognise this , that his greatest skill on the island is his medical knowledge, and step down. ironic maybe, but this is the true test - the best leader would know that he shouldn't be the leader, Jack is way too keen to lead and this points to an insecurity somewhere which does not make for a good quality as it is hidden inside. only when you know your own faults can you be a truly great leader of others.
Of course, another part of why he annoys me is just that he gets so much coverage. And not the interesting parts - like where he got his tatoos and wher ehe learned to play poker better than Sawyer, a professional conman. Oh no, we have to instead sit through a load of episodes about how his wife cheated on him and how he fixed her and she betrayed him and how he was a disappoinment to hsi Daddy and his Daddy was a disappointment to him....we learned a lot more about Christian in the Ana-lucia centric episode, which may have been deliberate, as jack has never grown up enough to see his father as a man rather than just a father.
I hope Tale of Two Cities doesn't focus on these same old issues again and gives us a new dimension to Jack as otherwise I will consider it wasted flashjback time. I don't want to know any more about his failed marriage. It doesn't seem complicated enough to deserve it. I could be wrong, and i do like being proved wrong about these sorts of things, but at the moment, I get bored whenever I see it's another jack moment.

True, he is a very good actor, but April_Rose is talking about the charactor Jack, not the actor.

Oh yeah, I think Matthew Fox does a great job of playing the self satisfied, smug, "oh, poor me I'm so troubled and wounded by my daddy and my wife" loser. I even agree that he is a highly necessary character, it's just that he really annoys me.

That would work for me. The fact he left annoys me more than anything I think because the one thing he is good at is being a doctor, but instead he has to go off and play rambo. And now if Aaron gets sick or anything there is no one. Don't get me wrong, I believe in herbal medicine like Sun uses, but sometimes you need an expert to diagnose and reccommend treatment. Another doctor would be excellent as lost_maniac says because then Jack would come back and be like "I'm back, worship me, follow me, i'm so great i escaped from the others...." and the losties would be like "yeah, whatever, look you might as well go back there man as we've got a better doctor now who is actually satisfied by making sick peopel better."
lol lol lol

April Rose, you are so right!!!! I think Matthew Fox does a good job of portraying the character, but oh how i hate Jack and his constant blubbering, self analysis, guilt tripping everyone and general "I'm so sensitive but that doesn't make me any less of a man" routine ...and mostly his voice, which I still maintain sounds exactly like Gonzo from the Muppet show - you never see em in a room together......
Wooo! I feel better for that!

I know, who the hell does he think he is talking to her like that - that's why I'm a skater rather than a jater, I've been in a relationship where I was patronised and it's really bad for self esteemk and that's the way he treats Kate

Well that kiss really swept her off her feet, don't think jack hass ever done anything as spontaneous or risky, Jack acts like he's trying to rescue her/protect her all the time whereas Sawyer put her and himself in danger just to kiss her, how romantic is that!

I think he's a good character, but he shouldn't ever have another flashback episode.
