I still haven't read the books....should I read them first? I normally do, and then generally hate the films....

I reckon the films are gonna be so totally different from the books that it probably won't make much difference! But yeah, you gotta read the books anyway! They've taken all the religious stuff out of the films apparently because it wouldn't go down well with an American audience.

They're brilliant, far better than that Harry Potter tripe! I reckon the film does look good too though, even though I know I'm gonna be sat in the cinema shaking my head and saying 'that's not how it happens!'

Yeah! Just watched the trailer again, tis different to the one I've seen! The 'compass' isn't even a compass and is never called a compass in the book, tis an alethiometer. Looks like they don't mention that in the film.

I think it's their statistics, there's always this stuff about box-office no.1's......they like to be able to say they hit the top spot, and if the title has a word in it they don't know how to pronounce....that's kind of evil of me!

i was having a big rant today about how its stupid that they've changed the name .. and it's annoyed me even more now that they call it a compass as you said Em ... thats not right!!!
after seeing those trailers i actually like lyra better, but thought that some of the lines could of been more emotive .. not that i'm an actress ... tis just how i imagined them

noooo ... lyra is the main girl ... nicole kidman plays the evil woman, Mrs Coulter. Although in the book she has long black hair ... and the witch is ment to have fair hair ... ah well ...

They usually don't pay much attention to things like that in the casting....it can be really annoying! When you love a book you have an idea in your head of how the character should look and then they can totally ruin that.
