Season 5 to be confusing! |
|
TV's Lost audience 'will be lost' (from the BBC website)
Viewers of the fifth series of Lost will not know where or when the action is set, the show's producers have said.
Talking at arts and comic book convention Comic-Con, they revealed they would play around with the show's flash-back and flash-forward formula.
Executive producer Carlton Cuse said: "We have something new this year. We're going to mix it up."
Lost, which centres on a group of plane crash survivors, won a Golden Globe for best drama series in 2006.
Executive producer Damon Lindelof said
"the flash-forwards were a bit limiting" during the last series of the programme, as they could only show a group of six survivors who the audience already knew had escaped the crash site.
"We could only focus on the Oceanic Six because we didn't want to reveal certain things - like Desmond getting off the island," he said.
End date
When season five starts, you won't know when or where you are. And the way we tell stories will be different too."
"Also we have the guy who makes the whooshing sound for us and we would not want to put him out of work."
US network ABC has allowed the producers to set an expiration date for the show, which will draw to a close after the sixth series.
Cuse said: "For us it was a huge advantage to get an end date to the show and that really allowed us to turn a corner.
"We knew exactly how much story we had left. It really invigorated series four and it's been very exciting as we plan series five now."
Lindelof told the 6,500 assembled fans: "You will be rewarded for hanging on all the way to end of series six. We think that we have a lot of cool stuff from here on out."
Lost has just been nominated for an Emmy for outstanding drama series, ahead of the award show in 21 September.
It is broadcast by Sky One in the UK.

Urgh. I hate that idea. I hated the flashback/flash forward thing in Sun and Jin's ep. They're gonna be doing all the time?! Rubbish.

Yeah, I'm not massively sold on the idea. I really didn't think it "invigorated" season 4 either

Not really looking forward to that then. Why bother complicating it more? Isn't it already losing viewers because people are finding it too complicated?!

Yeah it is! I know a few people who got bored of all the flashforward stuff and just gave up. I almost did myself!

Yeah some of my mates were almost gonna stop watching it too, saying it'd just got too confusing now. I just really hate flashforwards.

I guess i'll try to be openminded about it until it starts, but if it's a whole season of how the Oceanic 6 end up back on the island then I won't be in a hurry to watch much of it! I want to see what Locke and Sawyer get up to!

If they end up back on the island I'll be really mad! What's the point of getting them off the island, doing all the flashforward crap, then just sticking them back on the island again!

Yeah I'm not sure what the point would be! But it seemed to be heading that way at the end of season 4...

Boo hiss. I bet we'll still get loads of Jack angst too.

I hope not! They'd be mad not to show some really good island stuff, if it just turns into the Oceanic 6 show with the other characters as extras, then I won't bother watching it I don't reckon.

I'll still watch it but I'll probably end up fastforwarding most of it like I did with the last Jack ep.

Love the line "Also we have the guy who makes the whooshing sound for us and we would not want to put him out of work."
Yeah, if it's like that Jin/Sun episode I'd be annoyed - watching that one made me angry, like I'd been manipulated, and in general I was ok about the flashforwards.
Yeah, we've seen plenty of the Oceanic 6, want to know what happens with Locke & Sawyer and even Juliet as I'd hoped that without Jack there she might come into her own a bit more.
If they just skip to the part where Locke is dead and Jack & co want to get back to the island I might be tempted to give up on it as well! Would probably still watch but might not be in such a rush to download it every week....
