Jack's Dad + Sarah |
|
Just realised that in the episode Two for the Road when Christian picks a name for Ana he calls her Sarah. Wonder if this is in any way significant, given what we saw of Jack's suspicions in A Tale of Two Cities?
It didn't seem to me that they were having an affair but it is also very strange that not long after that (- what, about a year maybe at most, given that Jack only fixed Sarah the night he met Desmond and they were together for a while before splitting, and it was Christian's out of control drinking that led to him going to Australia in the first place? )Considering that I find it strange that he would have picked the name of his son's ex wife to give to a stranger who was going to accompany him to Australia considering he had been accused of having an affair with her? Don't forget it was Christian who picked it, not Ana, she picked his name(Tom) and he picked hers.
Any thoughts on this?

I never really made that connection, but its a good idea. Its possible that Sarah could've just been the first name that came to mind when he was thinking of one. Then on the other hand, names don't cross over on lost that often so there's bound to be some sort of connection there

yeah, that's my thinking - I'm not saying it means they had an affair or anything, and maybe it was just a name on his mind, but you would think that with everything that had happened he would have wanted to get the name Sarah out of his head rather than use it on a stranger, one who looks nothing like the blonde-blue-eyed ex of Jack.
It's not the only time we see a double use of names - Libby says her Husband's name was David, long form of Dave which is the name Hurley's head gives to his imaginary "friend".
As a writer and soemoen who reads a lot and watches a fair bit of TV I know that usually in a show with a lot of characters the writers will try not to reuse names if at all possible as it confuses peopel greatly and takes away from the story. Any time it is used it serves a purpose, it is used as a technique, to highlight somehting else in the text or the story or to get the reader/viewer's mind going.
It can't be an oversight as with the amount of people who work on Lost it owuld be spotted (both above examples) so there must be something to it. The only question is what.
