Season 3 Episode 11 - "Enter 77"
(07/03/07)

Flashback

Sayid is chopping vegetables in the kitchen of the Portail d'Arabie restaurant in Paris, France. A waiter enters, calling him Najeev, and tells him in Arabic that a man outside is waiting for him. Sayid exits to the outdoor dining area and a man sitting at a table alone compliments Sayid's cooking and introduces himself as Sami. He asks where Sayid is from and Sayid claims he is Syrian but Sami counters that he can tell that they are actually both Iraqi. He offers Sayid the cook position at his restaurant.

Later, Sayid enters Sami's restaurant, Le Jardin Croissant Fertile, and asks for him. Sami introduces his wife Amira, who holds his hands, revealing burn scars on her arm. One of the men grabs Sayid's arm and the rest hold him down while Sami knocks him unconscious with a kick to the head.

Sayid wakes up on the floor of a locked room with his hands chained together. Sami enters and gives him a bowl of water. He asks Sayid if he was a torturer in the Republican Guard, and if he recognizes his wife as one of his victims. He says Amira was held and questioned for three months for harboring an enemy of the state. Sayid admits to everything except knowing his wife, but Sami states that she recognized Sayid when she saw him at the restaurant. Sami tells Sayid that he must admit to his crimes or he will be killed.

Amira enters and Sayid tells her he doesn't know her and wouldn't torture a woman. Sami hits him. He says that Amira confessed to a crime she didn't commit when her interrogators poured boiling oil on her arms. He goes to grab a metal bar, but Amira tells him that it is enough for today.

The next day, Amira enters, holding a cat similar to the one Sayid sees at the Flame station. She tells him that when she and her husband came to Paris, she was afraid to leave their apartment until she heard a cat being tortured by firecrackers and rescued it. She has kept him as a pet even though the cat sometimes bites her because she knows what it is like to never feel safe, because of Sayid. She asks him to show her the respect of acknowledging what he did, and that he remembers her. Sayid is stunned, and then tells her that he does remember her face, that it has haunted him ever since. He starts to cry, and tells her that he is sorry for what he has done to her. Amira forgives him and tells Sayid she will tell her husband that she is mistaken and should release Sayid. Sayid asks why and she says that she does not want to be the same as him and her cat's torturers.

At camp

Sawyer finds Hurley and some of the others building a ping-pong table from materials found in the Swan remains. He asks Hurley if he's seen Kate. Sawyer sees Paulo carrying a Guns & Ammo magazine and confronts him. Paulo says they share things now and that Sawyer can have it, but Sawyer realizes it has become bathroom reading and gives up.

Sawyer approaches the group putting together the ping pong table and holds up a whiffle golf ball. He tells them that he wants his stash back but that he's willing to play them for it. Sun tells Sawyer that if he loses, he can't call anyone by a nickname for an entire week.

At the game Hurley steps up as Sawyer's opponent. He asks if Sawyer wants to play with the mercy rule (if the score is 11-0 the leader automatically wins) and Sawyer agrees and offers him first serve. Hurley wins the first point with considerable ease, to the cheers of the others.

Later, Hurley finds Sawyer cleaning his glasses and sulking. He consoles Sawyer, who claims he was hustled even though he got three points. Hurley says he had plenty of practice in his basement and another place he hung out (after he cuts himself off about to give away the fact that he was in a mental institution). He gives Sawyer back his pornographic magazines and tells him he knows he's worried about Kate but he thinks that she'll be okay since she's with Sayid and Locke. Sawyer starts to call him a name but is told he must refer to him as "Hurley" or "Hugo" now. Sawyer tells him to get bent.

At The Flame

Sayid confronts John about their plan to use the heading of 305 from Eko's stick to navigate. He goes to pick some fruit and hears a cow bell. Following the sound leads him to a cow, and Sayid is shocked to hear someone whistle for the animal. Through the bushes he spies a small building with a satellite dish on top. Outside is a horse and the same man with an eye patch that Sayid saw on the Pearl video feed (in "The Cost of Living").

After circling the area, Sayid confirms to the group that the building is isolated, and that a satellite dish like that could broadcast for thousands of miles. He asks Danielle if it is the radio tower that she had talked about, but she denies ever having seen this place before. Sayid then tells Kate his plan to approach unarmed, with the other three as backup in hiding. Danielle says that she had survived on the Island for so long by avoiding such confrontations, and will wait for them by the stream.

Sayid approaches the building with his hands in the air. He notices the saddle on the horse and a cat sitting on a work table. Suddenly he is shot in the arm. Kate is restrained from acting by Locke as Mikhail Bakunin points his gun through an open window, shouting at Sayid. He yells that he didn't cross the line, that he had a truce and this is his land. Sayid says he isn't who Mikhail thinks he is, that his plane crashed, and he's unarmed. Mikhail comes out, wearing a DHARMA jump suit with a flame logo patch. Locke and Kate rush in and force him to drop his gun. He introduces himself as Mikhail Bakunin, the last surviving member of the DHARMA Initiative.

Mikhail and Kate help Sayid to the couch inside. Mikhail offers to help with Sayid's wound, having spent some time in the Soviet Army in Afghanistan getting field medicine experience. Mikhail asks Kate to get a medical kit from the kitchen and starts to patch up Sayid. Mikhail says he grew up in Kiev and joined the Soviet Army. He was stationed at a listening post in Vladivostok. His unit was decommissioned when the Cold War ended, and he later replied to a newspaper advertisement that read, "Would you like to save the world?" He joined the "very secretive, rich, and smart" Initiative and came to the Island eleven years ago. He was put in this station, called the Flame, the purpose of which is to communicate with the outside world. He says that everyone else in the DHARMA initiative died in a foolish attack they called "the purge" on a group they called "the Hostiles". Mikhail survived by not getting involved and agreeing to a truce according to which he could stay behind as long as he did not cross a designated line around the valley. He says they weren't interested in the satellite dish because it hadn't functioned in years. He doesn't know who the hostiles are, but they were on the island for a very long time before the Initiative or anyone else.

Locke looks at a document in a typewriter written in Russian with some notes written in the margin in red. He finds another room in which is a computer displaying a chess game, and decides to start a new game.

Sayid is unsettled when Mikhail calls his cat Nadia. He says he named her after Nadia Comaneci, an athlete with the same birthday whose poster is on the wall. Mikhail finishes the stitches and offers them iced tea. As he goes to fetch the drinks, Sayid and Kate quickly converse, and Sayid is adamant that he believes Mikhail is actually an Other. He also thinks they should play along as the horse outside was saddled for someone smaller, meaning there is another person somewhere in the building. Meanwhile, Mikhail enters the computer room and tells Locke that the chess game is too difficult to beat and even cheats, but Locke claims cheating is something that makes humans uniquely "wonderful".
Mikhail brings them the iced tea and Sayid asks more questions about the Initiative.

Mikhail reveals that the Flame station is a communications hub with wires running underground to the other stations on the island. One cable runs into the ocean leading to an underwater beacon that guides submarines to the Island. He suspects the Hostiles have destroyed or commandeered one. He seems surprised to hear that Sayid's group had a sailboat but that it was taken by the Others. When Sayid tries to push a reaction by mentioning killing one of them (presumably referring to Colleen), Mikhail drops his ruse and attacks Sayid and Kate. They struggle but Kate manages to subdue him as Locke comes in with his pistol.

They tie up Mikhail while Sayid explains his theory that the Others sent someone else to the station because they lost communications when the sky turned purple. Locke thinks the station is empty, but Sayid lifts the rug and reveals a hatch door.

Sayid and Kate climb down the hatch ladder while Locke watches Mikhail's unconscious body upstairs. Locke, however, hears the computer speaking and goes to it, leaving his prisoner unsupervised. He starts to play another game of chess and achieves a mate in 2, which the computer erroneously claims is a checkmate. A video clip of Marvin Candle appears and says, "Manual override achieved. For pallet drop enter 2-4. For station up-link enter 3-2. For mainland communication enter 3-8". Locke enters 3-8. A new clip is called up saying "The satellite dish is inoperable. Communications are down. For sonar access enter 5-6". Locke enters 5-6. A new clip says, "Sonar is inoperable. Has there been an incursion on this station by the Hostiles? If so, enter 7-7". Locke's finger aims hovers over the 7 key when Mikhail puts a knife to his neck from behind stopping him from typing the second 7.

Sayid and Kate see C-4 wired throughout the entire underground room. Sayid sees a shelf lined with binders, one of which is a food drop protocol and one of which is an operations manual. Kate investigates a closet area and is attacked from behind by Ms. Klugh. Sayid arrives and tells Klugh to drop her gun. Kate hits her, saying she helped kidnap them and knows where Jack is. Sayid asks Klugh if there are any others there, but she acts unafraid hardly intimidated by the rifle.

They take her upstairs and outside, where Mikhail has Locke at gunpoint. Mikhail offers a hostage exchange but John claims Mikhail wouldn't kill him. Klugh talks and argues with Mikhail in Russian while Kate, Locke and Sayid shout. Finally she orders him to "do it" and he shoots her in the heart. Mikhail is knocked over and Sayid points his gun at him. Mikhail tells him to finish it, but Sayid doesn't shoot.

Later when it's dark, Sayid takes Mikhail outside and calls for Danielle. Mikhail says that he was never a member of DHARMA but that everything else he said was true, and that DHARMA did really attack the Hostiles. Sayid tells Danielle that Locke and Kate are gathering anything useful from the station and that now he has their ticket to the Others' location, where they will find Danielle's daughter and Jack, and perhaps a way home. Mikhail refuses to lead them, but Sayid says he has a map of the cables, which leads to an area called the barracks, which he believes is where the Others are staying. Mikhail threatens to kill them the next time they let their guard down. Danielle says that since they don't need him, they should kill him.

However, Sayid takes responsibility for deciding Mikhail's fate and refuses to kill him. Locke and Kate join them and Locke says he knows why Mikhail didn't want him playing with the computer. Suddenly the station explodes. Sayid demands to know what Locke has done, and Locke tells him that the computer said if there was an incursion to enter 7-7, so he did. Sayid tells Locke that he may have destroyed their only chance of communication with the outside world. They leave the station, and Sayid notices the cat staring back at him as he turns around.

Season 3 Episode 12 - "Par Avion"
(14/03/07)

Flashbacks

A left eye with heavy black eye-liner slowly opens; it is Claire. She awakens slowly to realize that she is sitting in her automobile immediately after a severe car accident. She is cut, her airbag is deployed and deflated, the windshield has been completely shattered, and her mother's body has apparently been thrown through it onto the pavement outside. When her door does not work, she crawls out through the windshield to her mother, who remains motionless.

At the hospital while Claire's forehead wound is being stitched, a policeman, Officer Barnes, enters and questions her about the accident. She becomes very defensive when she believes he is implying the fault was hers, or that her mother may die.

Returning to the hospital after briefly going home for a shower, Claire finds her aunt Lindsey in her mother's room. They have a brief confrontation where Claire is accused of not caring about her mother, when a doctor enters the room. He informs them that the surgery has stabilized her mother's condition, but upon further questioning from Claire, he indicates that her mother may be in a permanent coma. When Lindsey says that they can't afford such long term medical care, the doctor reveals that the entire medical bill has been covered by an anonymous benefactor.

Claire later returns to visit her mother to find an American doctor, Christian Shephard, in the room, lightly touching her mother's forearm. When Lindsey enters the room, she immediately demands to know why he is there and begins to argue heatedly with him. Claire is confused as to his identity and how Lindsey knows him. Eventually the man reveals that he is Claire's father, whom she had been told was dead.

Some time later, Claire is working in a tattoo and piercing parlor when Christian enters, and asks her to join him for a conversation over coffee before he leaves Australia. Although she is angry, eventually Claire agrees.

During their meeting at a coffee shop, Christian explains that he had a fling with her mother some years ago that resulted in her birth. He also says that he had visited occasionally when she was younger, but that the fact that he had another family in the United States eventually made her mother and Lindsey too resentful for that to continue. Christian then attempts to persuade Claire that because her mother's prognosis is so poor, letting her die outright may be the right thing to do. When Claire does not agree, and stands and begins to leave without even knowing her father's name, he suggests that it is her guilt for her mother's condition, rather than hope for her recovery, that may be her true motivation.

Many months or years later, Claire returns to the hospital to visit her still-comatose mother, which now seems to be a routine; she is sporting blonde hair and is obviously pregnant. She turns the television on to a nature program showing a scene of migratory birds flying in formation. She explains to her unconscious mother that she is pregnant, and is about to give the baby away for adoption. She also apologizes to her mother, explaining that she now understands how hard it was for her mother to raise her. She becomes overwhelmed with guilt and, as she begins to sob, apologizes for arguing with her mother during the fateful car ride, where she told her that she hated her and wished she was dead, and takes responsibility for the subsequent accident.

At the beach camp

Claire opens her right eye, awakening in her tent to a plate of fruit beside her with a message attached to it that reads, "G-Day!" Charlie arrives at her tent, carrying Aaron, and tells her about a picnic he has planned on the beach, and arranged for Sun and Jin to take care of Aaron while they dine. Before Charlie and Claire can settle into their picnic, Desmond comes out of the jungle requesting for Charlie to come hunting with him. Although Charlie is reluctant, Desmond subtly implies to him that he has received a vision telling him Charlie will die if he remains with Claire. At the same time, Claire notices gulls flying in the air and announces that she has realized a possible way of getting off the island.

Claire explains that the gulls are migrating south, and that scientists have tagged them to see where they land in comparison to where they took off from. She devises a plan to capture a gull and tie a rescue note to its leg in hopes that a scientist will find and read it, and enlists Sun and Jin to help. She attempts to persuade Charlie as well, however, he remains uncharacteristically pessimistic, refusing to help. While Jin prepares a net, Claire and Sun chop up fish to use as bait. As they do so, Sun muses that this is precisely what her mother feared - her growing up to cut bait. Claire and Sun briefly discuss their parent's expectations for them before the net is completed and they begin the gull catching. Eventually a lone bird is attracted into the trap, but the group's attempts to capture a bird are thwarted when Desmond fires a hunting rifle, claiming to be boar hunting, and scares the bird away. Frustrated, Claire demands that Charlie tell her why he and Desmond do not want her to catch a bird. When Charlie refuses, Claire stammers that she does not want liars raising Aaron.

Distraught, Claire decides to find out what is going on for herself. She surreptitiously follows Desmond to a rocky area off the coastline, where he effortlessly plucks a gull from a seaweed mound on the rocks. Claire confronts Desmond, saying that based on how easily he found the bird, which was hidden out of view, without searching, he must have known it would be there. After an initial denial, Desmond explains his visions of the future: he gestures to a rock and claims that it is the location where Charlie, attempting to get a bird for Claire, would have slipped and fallen into the ocean, then died in the treacherous currents under the rocky shoreline.

Returning to camp, Claire is no longer angry with Charlie; she writes a rescue note and Charlie ties it to the gull's leg. The note informs the reader of the survivors' current circumstances, and encourages whoever finds it to never give up hope on finding them. Claire releases the bird while Charlie solemnly stands beside her. As the bird flies away from the pair, Claire tells Charlie that Desmond told her everything about his visions of Charlie's death. She promises that they can face his supposedly doomed fate together, and that she has not given up hope on him either.

En route to the Barracks

The search party of Sayid, Locke, Kate, Rousseau, and Mikhail are resting momentarily while Sayid and Locke begin to argue about the relative merits of following the electrical conduit map found in the Flame Station, versus following Eko's stick. Meanwhile, at a rest stop by a stream, when Kate is alone with Rousseau, Kate asks her why she is not interested in as details about her daughter. Rousseau explains that her daughter will not recognize her, will not know of her years of efforts to find her, and quite possibly, Rousseau will not like what her daughter has become.
Later in their journey, when Kate asks Mikhail how he arrived on the island, he recalls that he was approached by a man when he was 24 and arrived on a submarine.

He explains that the submarine can freely leave the island, but since the recent deactivation of the underwater beacon after the electromagnetic pulse, it would not be able to return to the island if it left. When Kate says that she can't understand why they would remain on the island willingly, Mikhail replies that they simply are not capable of understanding. Upon further questioning, he says that only those on the list are able to understand their reasons, but that Kate, Locke, and Sayid are flawed, and therefore not on this list. He also explains that the list was made by the same "great man" who brought all of his people to the island, and denies that this man is Ben. He also lists specific reasons for why they aren't on the list: Kate is flawed, Locke is angry, and Sayid is "weak and afraid".

When Sayid indignantly laughs that the Others are not really omniscient, Mikhail immediately begins addressing them all by their full names. He also sarcastically begins to say that everyone is a stranger to him, save Locke, but that he must be mistaken about Locke because the John Locke he was aware of was "para--". He is cut off by Rousseau, who beckons for the group to examine what she has discovered, while he and Locke share a grim knowing look-- no one else realized the significance of the unfinished word, which was, presumably: paralyzed. Rousseau has discovered a series of metallic posts with knobs on either side of the top, directly across their intended path to the Barracks. When asked what its purpose is, Mikhail responds that it once was supposed to guard the barracks, but that it is now broken. He also claims that the system entirely encircles the Barracks, so that going around it is not an option, and tells Sayid to confirm this on his map. Methodically, Locke suddenly puts down his pack, then forcefully pushes Mikhail forward into the line of the security fence between two of the poles.

An intense buzzing sound begins, and Mikhail has time enough to reply "thank you," before he begins foaming at the mouth, then is thrown backward, blood gushing out of his nose and ears, apparently dead.

Sayid angrily questions Locke's motives for accompanying them, and Locke is further incriminated when Kate and Sayid discover C4 in Locke's backpack, showing that he may have been intentionally careless in the destruction of The Flame, contrary to his earlier claim. The four remaining travelers then devise a ramp made of a fallen tree to climb safely over the deadly sonic security fence.

They soon arrive at the outskirts of the barracks, which is revealed to be the same location as depicted in the opening scene of "A Tale of Two Cities": a more modern, suburb-like area, complete with inviting houses, sidewalks, decorative landscaping, and recreational utilities. As they continue hiding in the surrounding foliage, they suddenly see Jack racing toward their hiding place. Kate utters his name as she begins to move toward Jack, but is held back by Sayid long enough to see that Jack is nonchalantly playing football with Tom. As the scene comes to an end, Jack is seen spiking the football to the ground, happily simulating a touch down.

Season 3 Episode 13 - "The man from Tallahassee"
(21/03/07)

Flashbacks

Locke is being interviewed by a government worker, who will determine whether he will continue receiving government disability payments. She asks why he has stopped submitting his therapy bills. He says he has stopped his therapy because it was a "waste of time", so she suspends the payments, saying the suspension is temporary. He asks if he is "temporarily disabled" and it is revealed that he was suffering from depression.

Later, at his apartment, Locke eats a TV dinner while watching an episode of Exposé when he is surprised by a knock at his door. A young man who introduces himself as Peter Talbot asks Locke if he knows "Adam Seward," who claims to be a retired computer entrepreneur from Ontario and who asked Peter's mother to marry him. It is revealed that Seward is Anthony Cooper. Peter tracked Locke down through Seward's medical records to find out if he is a good man. Locke claims it was an anonymous kidney donation and that he cannot help Peter.
.

Locke confronts his father at a flower shop, demanding that he call off the wedding. He tells Cooper that Peter is on to the con and threatens to tell Mrs. Talbot the truth. Cooper agrees to call off the wedding.

Arriving home later, Locke is met by Detective Mason and Detective Reed, who ask if he knows Peter Talbot. They tell Locke they know he came to Locke's apartment. When Locke says Peter was just trying to sell him something, the detectives tell him the Talbots are worth $200 million, and that Peter Talbot is now dead.

Locke confronts Cooper, demanding to know if he killed Peter Talbot. Cooper claims Mrs. Talbot called off the wedding due to the boy's death, leaving him with no angle to make any profit. While reciting this to Locke, Cooper pours two glasses of MacCutcheon Scotch Whisky, sipping from one, offering one to Locke and then replacing it back on the counter when Locke doesn't take it. Responding to Locke's accusation Cooper says he's a con man, not a murderer. He invites Locke to verify that the wedding is called off by calling Mrs. Talbot and asking her. As Locke reaches for the phone, Cooper lunges and pushes him through the window. He plummets eight stories and lands on his back.

The detectives visit Locke in the hospital to tell him that Cooper fled to Mexico and disappeared. They are interrupted by Locke's therapist who demands he get up out of the bed. Strangely, Locke is not in a back brace, and seems to have no bone fracture or injury, only bruises and paralysis. The therapist brings in a wheelchair and places Locke in it. Locke claims he can't do it, but the therapist responds, "John, you fell eight stories out of a window and survived. I don't want to hear about what you can't do." Locke stares at his immobile toes and cries.

At "Otherville"

Locke, Sayid, Kate and Rousseau are watching Jack and Tom throw a football when Juliet appears, and eventually brings Ben, who shakes hands with Jack. Rousseau disappears.

The trio of Kate, Sayid and Locke are confused by Jack's behavior, so Locke suggests waiting until dark before talking to Jack and attempting a rescue.

That night the rescue party splits up to guard Jack's bungalow, while Kate enters to talk to Jack. She finds Jack playing the piano, and when he notices her, he is shocked and immediately tells her to leave because he is being watched by cameras. Guards burst in, and Kate is immediately captured, as is Sayid. When she is interrogated by the guards, she lies and does not mention either Locke or Rousseau's presence in the Barracks.

Meanwhile, Locke surprises Ben is in his room with his gun drawn. Locke asks Ben where the submarine is, and Ben claims ignorance until Locke mentions that he killed Mikhail Bakunin. Next, Alex enters and is taken hostage by Locke. As Tom knocks on the door, Locke takes Alex into a closet while Tom and Richard Alpert enter to inform Ben that Kate and Sayid have been found in the Barracks and captured. Ben asks Alpert to bring him "The Man from Tallahassee," then both Tom and Alpert leave. Locke then sends Alex to retrieve Sayid's backpack as he holds Ben hostage.

Ben asks for help getting into his wheelchair and Locke is reluctant at first. Ben asks how Locke will pilot the submarine and asks what is in the pack. He deduces that Locke has explosives from the communications station and that he plans to destroy the sub. "I know you, John Locke," says Ben. He outlines Locke's life, saying he knows he spent four years in a wheelchair, and that he knows how Locke ended up in it. He asks if it hurt, and a bitter Locke replies, "I felt my back break. What do you think?"

Kate is being held in a recreation room with a pool table, foosball table and two pinball machines. She is working to free herself when Tom comes in. He is with Jack and warns him to "be careful in here," pointing to his ear and the ceiling, indicating the room is bugged. Jack tells Kate that this is where they live, and that the kidnapped people and children are safe. When Kate asks if he is with them now, Jack claims to not be with anyone. She confronts him about why he is acting this way, and he admits that they agreed to let him go home and promises to come back for her after he escapes. Juliet comes to get him - they are leaving the island the next morning.

Ben is very interested in Locke's recovery, asking if it was "immediate." Locke asks why it hasn't happened for Ben, and why he got sick in the first place. Ben asks if Locke wants to destroy the submarine because he is afraid that if he leaves the Island "it will go away," and he will be back in the chair.

Alex goes to get the pack from Ryan, who is guarding Sayid at the swingset. Sayid tells her she looks like her mother. "My mother is dead," she says, and he replies, "I'm sure that's what they told you," before being hit by Ryan and told to keep his mouth shut.

Locke asks where the electricity comes from and Ben makes a joke about hamsters. Ben tries to convince Locke to leave the submarine alone, that destroying it would give him "a big problem with [his] people." He says he was born on the island but many of the Others weren't, that the submarine helps them to remain committed to being on the island. Ben promises to show Locke "things he wants to see very badly." He tells Lock to imagine that the island contains a "very large box" that can manifest anything one wishes for. Locke suggests Ben should wish for a new submarine. He says Ben is a hypocrite for using electricity and guns. Ben asks how Locke thinks he knows the island better than he does, and Locke replies, "Because you're in the wheelchair and I'm not."

Locke also calls Ben a "Pharisee." In using this term, Locke is claiming that Ben is not practicing an authentic sprituality. He is claiming that Ben and the Others have become self-righteous, arrogant and powerful. They live a life of comforts off the remains of the Dharma Initiative while not doing what Locke thinks is their religious duty to the island.

Alex returns with the bag and Locke demands that she take him to the sub. Ben pleads one more time, telling Locke about his deal with Jack. He tells Locke that the Submarine will leave in the morning with Jack and that it will never come back after it leaves because the magnetic anomaly disabled their sonar beacon. Outside, Alex tells Locke that Ben was manipulating him. She shows him to the dock and we see Rousseau watching her from the trees. Locke enters the empty sub and looks around, turning on the lights.

Ben is interrupted by Jack and Juliet at his house. Jack asks for "one last favor," that his friends be released after he is gone. Ben agrees to let them go, shaking Jack's hand and giving his word to "let them go just as soon as you've left the island." Juliet thanks him for keeping his promise.

Locke leaves the sub and is confronted by Ryan and the others with Jack and Juliet. Locke apologizes to Jack just as the sub explodes.
Later, Locke is cuffed in an industrial room when Ben and Richard Alpert enter. Locke claims Ben wanted him to destroy the sub, and Ben confirms that Locke "made his dream come true" by creating a situation where Jack cannot leave the island but Ben can be said to have kept his word to Jack. Ben tells Alpert to uncuff John.

Locke asks sarcastically about the magic box and Ben says he will show him what came out of it. Ben tells Locke that when he asked him earlier if it hurt, he was asking what it felt like when Locke's "own father tried to kill him," not what Locke felt physically. He says Locke is afraid of Cooper, and that the island is the one place Cooper can never find him. Locke has "some communion" with the island and that makes him very important. He unlocks a door, revealing Anthony Cooper, bound and beaten. Anthony Cooper's reaction to seeing Locke is a mixture of shock and fear.

Season 3 Episode 14 - Exposé
(28/03/07)

Off-Island flashbacks

An emcee announces the arrival of "Corvette," the "pride of St. Paul" as Nikki takes off her coat to reveal a faux diamond bikini, and dances around a pole on a club stage. She spots someone entering Mr. LaShade's office and follows him with her coat on, catching the man opening a suitcase of money on his desk. She confronts him and says that the money was meant for the orphanage and Mr. LaShade must really be "the Cobra". The other man aims a gun at her but she shouts "razzle dazzle" and kicks to the floor and grabs it. She aims it at Mr. LaShade but he shoots her first. She falls to the floor, apparently dead. Two dancers, Autumn and Crystal, burst in, and LaShade tells them Corvette was working for the Cobra and he (the Cobra) will pay.

A voice says "and cut!" and a television crewman closes a clapperboard labeled Exposé. LaShade, revealed to be the actor Billy Dee Williams, helps Nikki stand up. Creator of the show Howard L. Zukerman announces that it's a series wrap for Corvette as the crew applauds Nikki. He walks her outside, where the Sydney opera house can be seen in the background, and offers to bring her character back. He asks if she's leaving Sydney to go back to Los Angeles but she says she loves him, and isn't leaving.

84 Days Ago - (Four Days before The Crash) Howard and Nikki are eating at his house and he introduces his new chef Paulo to Nikki when she compliments the food. He says Paulo came to Sydney and came to Howard's office every day until he gave him the job. Howard offers her a roll and she sees that he has placed a diamond bracelet there for her. He is about to explain why his wife is an obstacle to their getting married when he clutches his chest. Paulo comes out and checks his pulse, announcing he'd dead. Nikki grabs a necklace with a key off of Howard's neck as she complains about having to eat the same food as him. They enter Howard's closet and unlock a secret safe Nikki claims no one else knows about. Paulo prepares to smoke but Nikki prevents him so they don't leave evidence. Inside the safe they find a matryoshka doll, the contents of which Nikki refers to as "razzle freaking dazzle."

80 Days Ago - (Day 1) Paulo reads a newspaper article to Nikki, which reports Howard's death as heart failure, as they sit at the Sydney airport restaurant. They laugh, and kiss, and Nikki asks about Paulo's gum. He tells her it's nicotine gum and he has quit smoking. They toast each other with champagne and are interrupted by Shannon loudly complaining about a lack of seating in the waiting area and Boone being responsible for them not getting first class tickets. Boone politely asks Paulo for their extra chair, and he agrees, but Shannon pulls Boone away, accusing his "flirting with random guys" of delaying them. Nikki asks Paulo to promise her they will never end up like Shannon and Boone.

On-Island flashbacks

80 Days Ago - (Day 1) The survivors of Flight 815 roam around the debris of the fuselage in shock. Shannon is screaming. Nikki searches for her bag and Gary Troup gets sucked into the engine, which explodes. Nikki screams for Paulo, turning over a survivor, but it's Arzt who asks, "Are we alive? Did we survive? Look at me". Boone runs up to Nikki and asks if she has a pen. She spots Paulo staring out in shock at the ocean. She holds his face with concern and asks him where the bag is. Paulo was shocked that she was most concerned about the whereabouts of the diamonds rather than his (and everyone else's) well-being.

75 Days Ago - (Day 6) Nikki and Paulo search through the luggage at night while theorizing about the nature of the Monster. Nikki tells Paulo to focus as they need to find the bag before they are rescued. Ethan offers them clothes if they need them and introduces himself. Nikki says they are looking for Paulo's nicotine gum. Ethan suggests looking inland. Arzt runs by shouting that Boone has taken the water. Jack comes out, tells them he has found water, and makes his "live together, die alone" speech.

57 Days Ago - (Day 24) Nikki finds Dr. Arzt examining his collection of 20 new species. One, the female medusa spider, emits an extremely powerful pheromone. Nikki asks for his help in figuring out where her luggage might have landed. Arzt offers to draw a map showing possible trajectory of of the debris that fell from the plan as it crashed. Paulo acts jealous about Nikki asking Arzt for help and suggests Ethan would have been more help. They follow Arzt's map and find the drug smugglers' plane. Nikki asks him to climb up there to look for a radio but he is afraid it will fall. They discover the Pearl hatch and open it. Paulo wants to investigate but Nikki doesn't let him.

48 Days Ago - (Day 33) Arzt and Shannon are yelling at Kate for not telling the group about the guns from the Marshal's case. Nikki asks Kate where she found the case. Nikki and Paulo go to the waterfall and Paulo asks if Nikki would be with him if not for the bag. Nikki only says that it's worth $8 million and he should dive in, since she had to seduce Howard. Paulo sees the bag but tells Nikki he only sees dead bodies. She leaves and he dives under again.

32 Days Ago - (Day 49) Paulo nervously takes nicotine gum out of his luggage bag and starts to dig a hole on the beach when Locke discovers him. Locke suggests he find a more secure place for whatever he's hiding, stating, "Things don't stay buried on this Island". Locke clarifies his statement by saying that the beach will erode. Paulo enters the Pearl, where one monitor is on, showing static. He hides the matryoshka doll in the toilet reservoir. He hears a noise and peeks through the bathroom door. Ben and Juliet enter, thinking the door was left open by Tom. Ben tells Juliet to have Tom cover the hatch with the plane. They tune the monitor station to the Swan video feed, which displays Jack. Upon seeing him, Juliet asks, "Is that Him? Shephard?" Ben says he will recruit Jack by exploiting his emotional investments. Juliet asks if this means they'll grab Ford and Austen too. Ben replies that they'll get Michael to bring them to the Others. They leave, Ben commanding Juliet to "tell Tom to cover up the station with the plane", and Paulo finds their walkie.

9 Days Ago - (Day 72) Locke invites the Losties to the Pearl station, and Nikki and Paulo tag along. Paulo pretends to needs to use the bathroom and retrieves the matryoshka doll, which contains a small pouch, which he hides in his underwear.

12 Hours Ago - (Day 81) Nikki tells Paulo that she is sad that Thanksgiving passed two weeks ago without them realizing it. She is worried that they will never be rescued, but Paulo comforts her. He tells her he is glad they didn't find the bag because it might have torn them apart. He leaves to get them breakfast and Nikki finds his nicotine gum in the sand. Nikki finds Sawyer and demands he gives her a gun. He refuses, saying that she is so agitated that no good can come of it. He says he doesn't have the guns any more and wouldn't give one to her if he did, as Desmond watches. He yells "and who the hell are you?" as she leaves.

8 Hours Ago - (Day 81) Nikki brings Paulo into the jungle and confronts him about having the diamonds. He feigns ignorance but she shows him the gum. She takes out one of Dr Arzt's specimen jars, opens it, and flings a medusa spider at Paulo. It lands on his neck and bites him. He kills it, and it remains stuck to his hand. She tells him that it's called the medusa spider because it paralyzes the victim for around eight hours, and slows the heart. Paulo collapses and can't move. Nikki cooly begins to search him for the diamonds, at first guessing that they are hidden in his shoe. She takes off his shoe and throws it into a tree. She opens his pants and finds the pouch in his underwear. Paulo tells her he took the diamonds because he was afraid of losing her if she found the diamonds and didn't need him anymore. The same clicking sounds that the monster makes are heard in the distance and Nikki is distracted as many Medusa spiders, attracted by the scent of the smashed female spider, march towards the pair. Nikki is bitten by one and she runs away. Nikki runs through the jungle, stops suddenly and digs a hole, burying something, then continues running. On the beach, Sawyer and Hurley are playing ping pong when Nikki staggers towards them and collapses, mumbling "paralyzed."

At the Beach camp

Nikki runs through the jungle, stops suddenly and digs a hole, burying something, then continues running. On the beach, Sawyer and Hurley are playing ping pong when Nikki staggers towards them and collapses. Hugo asks her what happened and she says something hard to understand, like "pa-- leyes--." Sawyer tells Hurley to get help and peers into the jungle for possible dangers but Hurley tells him Nikki is dead. Sawyer asks who Nikki is.

Sawyer, Hurley, Jin, Sun, and Charlie examine the body but can't determine the cause of death. Sun suggests she might have been poisoned and they should check the food supply. Charlie discovers dirt under her fingernails. Sawyer thinks she said "plywood," but Hurley suggests "power lines" and then exclaims "Paulo lies!" Sawyer proposes they investigate Paulo.

Sawyer, Jin, and Hurley find Paulo's still body lying on the jungle floor. His pants are undone and his shoe is in a tree. Sawyer looks into the jungle but claims not to see anything. Jin takes a water bottle out of Paulo's bag, but Sawyer takes it away and empties it in case it's poisoned. Hurley accuses Sawyer of contaminating the crime scene. Jin proposes it was the monster.

Hurley, Jin, and Sawyer bring Paulo's body to the graveyard. Hurley says the monster must be responsible because Eko Paulo and Nikki were with Eko when he said, "you're next". Sawyer disputes this, saying that he thinks Eko meant "We're all next". Hurley berates Sawyer for referring to Nikki and Paulo as "Nina and Pablo."

Sawyer searches through Nikki and Paulo's living area while Hurley tells him to be careful. Charlie reports that Sun checked the food and no one else is sick. They see the bugs and Charlie remembers them as Arzt's. They theorize that Nikki and Paulo were his friends. Charlie finds Nikki's Exposé script. Hurley professes being a big fan of the show and discover's Nikki's name on the cast listing. He is shocked to discover that Mr. LaShade was "The Cobra." Sawyer discovers a walkie and tells them it's exactly the same as the ones the Others carry on their belts. He accuses Nikki and Paulo of working with the Others.

The group discusses the situation at the graveyard. Hurley asks Sawyer how Nikki and Paulo could have been working with the Others. Sawyer reminds him of what Michael did. Hurley says they are too far away but Sun counters that they grabbed her right in their camp. Sawyer offers to make a perimeter sweep, taking out a gun, which Hurley questions him about. Charlie and Sun cover the bodies.

Hurley finds Desmond and asks if he can use his psychic powers to find out what happened, but Desmond says he only see flashes. He suggests asking Sawyer, whom he saw Nikki arguing with earlier in the day, right before she died.

Vincent uncovers the bodies. Hurley discusses his findings about Sawyer with Charlie and Sun. Sun defends Sawyer and accuses the Others. Hurley leaves to get Desmond. Charlie confesses to Sun that he was the one that bagged her head and dragged her into the jungle, and that it was Sawyer's idea.

Later when they all regroup at the grave, Hurley asks for Sawyer's gun and tells him he knows about his argument with Nikki. He asks if Sawyer killed her, but Sawyer insists he didn't do it. He tells them he kept it a secret, because he deduced from the dirt under Nikki's nails that she must have been hiding something important. He shows them the pouch and throws it to Sun. She opens it to reveal many diamonds. Sawyer tells her to keep them, says he had nothing to do with the deaths and walks away.

Sun finds Sawyer and confronts him about what Charlie revealed. She returns the diamonds to him, pointing out that they have no value here, and slaps him. Later, the group gathers around the grave for a funeral and Hurley delivers a eulogy. He says although it appears they killed each other over diamonds, they were nice to him, he liked Exposé, and they were part of the camp. Sawyer scatters the diamonds in their grave.

The group starts to bury Nikki and Paulo. Just as the sand covers their faces, the poison starts to wear off and Nikki's eyes open, but Sawyer and Hurley do not see; Nikki and Paulo are both buried alive. It then becomes clear that Nikki actually said "paralyzed" before she collapsed.
